Chapter 14
“What problem?”
“Tomorrow is the day you died. Prezia, you couldn’t get up for about three months.”
“I was that badly hurt?”
Startled, she widened her eyes and asked. The fact that she wouldn’t wake for three months shocked her more than dying the next day.
“It wasn’t a small injury.”
“But it wasn’t like that in the past. I only slept for a month.”
In the past, she woke after about a month, fully healed and soon returned to daily life.
“Yeah. Why is that?”
“Could the lost memories change the past?”
“Maybe. Or maybe because I lived with memories of the past, I was under a lot of stress and couldn’t get up for longer.”
That made sense. Just as her scar disappeared, lost memories could change enough. Even when she could move freely, her life was different than before.
But it seemed more likely that the stress made her unable to recover quickly. She’d had sleepless nights and a lot of stress thinking about the day she’d die.
Harensys nodded, agreeing with her.
“Yeah. But that’s not the problem now. We need to figure out what to do tomorrow. After sleeping so long, you might not be able to move freely, and we haven’t made a perfect plan in advance.”
“That’s true. But it’ll work out somehow! Don’t worry.”
Prezia pretended to be calm, trying to reassure Harensys who seemed very anxious.
Soon, her body started moving on its own again. It seemed she couldn’t control her body while sleeping.
‘Wait!’
Then, could she just sleep?
She tried to sleep, hoping to stop her body from moving on its own, but she kept talking and moving, unable to fall asleep.
‘Come to think of it, even when I napped during class, I’d wake up right away during break and go flirt with Harensys.’
That meant, unless she was sick, it wouldn’t work.
She couldn’t hurt herself to avoid death, nor did she have the courage.
In the end, the day she was destined to die arrived without any progress.
***
Even on the day she was supposed to die, she had to attend class.
Her legs trembled as she bit her nails. Even knowing she was going to die, the lack of progress made her so anxious she could barely stand it.
Now, she could move just a little, but slower than a turtle.
There was no way not to worry.
Harensys felt the same. He was shaking his legs wildly and biting his nails. Because of that, the other students, and even the teacher, were staring at them.
“Harensys, Prezia! Both of you, stop shaking your legs. You’re distracting the other students!”
“…Yes.”
At the teacher’s stern scolding, Prezia and Harensys slowly stopped shaking their legs.
But they couldn’t stop biting their nails. Throughout the class, they nervously chewed their nails together, leaving their nails in a mess.
After the anxious class ended, Harensys quietly left for somewhere. Judging by the time, it was almost the moment she was supposed to die. He must have gone to the gym storage.
‘Ha.’
She sighed deeply, and her body suddenly stood up. Following Harensys, she went outside, heading to the gym storage to help.
Her legs moved confidently, but her heart felt like it was being hammered.
Soon, she spotted Harensys entering the gym storage from afar and hurried after him, waving and smiling at him.
“Hi, Harensys.”
“Yeah.”
“Why are you here? I just followed you.”
She walked quickly beside Harensys, who was searching the storage for a desk. His anxious eyes darted around.
“The teacher said he needed something.”
“What is it? I’ll help you look.”
‘No, don’t find it!’
Prezia screamed inwardly.
“Do what you want. I’m looking for a desk.”
“Okay!”
Even though she was heading toward her death, she smiled brightly and helped search for desks deeper inside. As they went further in, desks were stacked high. The sight made her dizzy.
“That’s really tall. Can I reach it?”
She looked up at the towering stack. Who stacked them so high? She cursed them inwardly.
Grumbling to herself, she stretched her hand as far as she could. She couldn’t reach the legs of the highest desk.
“Harensys, can you help me?”
There was no reply. Still reaching for the desk, she turned her head to look around.
‘Is it not time yet?’
Was her body not moving yet, so Harensys had gone outside? She was about to be crushed by the desks.
“What’s going on?”
As she turned her head, she accidentally bumped a desk. It became precariously close to falling. She looked up at the desk and shouted at herself.
‘D*mn body! Please move!’
Her body started to move little by little. She desperately crawled away, trying to avoid being crushed before the desk fell.
After struggling desperately, she almost made it to a safe spot.
Thud. But the desks couldn’t hold any longer and came crashing down.
‘In the end, my fate is to die just like before.’
With tears welling up, she squeezed her eyes shut.
At that moment, she heard someone calling her name.
“Prezia!”
Startled, she opened her eyes to see Harensys throwing himself toward her. As Harensys wrapped himself around her, the desks crashed down.
“Ugh.”
“Ugh, Ha, Harensys, are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. Charlie! Help me out!”
Holding a plank position, Harensys somehow managed to say he was fine and called for Charlie. It must have been the same friend from before.
“What happened? Gasp, what is this, are you both okay?”
Charlie, who rushed over, looked at them with wide eyes. It was a shocking situation, but he didn’t just stand and stare.
Harensys frowned, his voice trembling.
“If you don’t help us right now, we won’t be okay.”
“Oh, oh.”
Charlie, big and strong, began lifting the desks one by one. When there were only a few left, Harensys and Charlie worked together to get out quickly.
“We survived.”
“Prezia, are you hurt anywhere?”
He must have been hurt more, but he checked on her first. Touched by his concern, Prezia fought back tears and nodded.
“Yeah. I just scraped my hand a little on the floor. Are you sure you’re okay, Harensys?”
“I bumped into the desk, but it was just my back, so I’m fine.”
Liar. Even if it was just his back, he couldn’t be fine. He was frowning, obviously holding back pain.
She clenched her fist to say something, but Charlie spoke first.
“Don’t just say you’re fine—both of you should go to the infirmary.”
“Yeah, we should.”
Harensys, whether he was hurt too or because of Prezia, readily agreed. Together with Charlie, they went to the infirmary. After being diagnosed with bruises and receiving simple treatment, they left the infirmary.
It finally felt like everything was over. Prezia and Harensys held hands and walked over the dry lawn.
“Now only happy days are left for us, right?”
“Of course, only happy days with me are left. For the rest of your life, I’ll make you happy.”
“Hm, is that a proposal?”
Prezia teased, leaning her face forward toward Harensys.
“Who knows.”
Harensys shrugged, pretending not to know. As if he had no intention to propose.
But Prezia was not disappointed at all. She knew it was a lie. Harensys had never once thought of not marrying her. She’d even thought about how many children they might have.
“Oh, so that means you won’t marry me. Fine.”
So she pulled back her face and spoke with playful indifference. Because he joked, she responded with a joke.
“No, no! I was just kidding!”
Harensys stopped walking and waved his hands quickly at her, visibly flustered.
Puhaha! His embarrassed face was so funny that Prezia burst out laughing.
“I do want to marry you.”
“Yeah, yeah.”
She still couldn’t stop laughing. Her stomach hurt, and tears welled up from laughing so much. The laughter filling her face made her truly feel that only happy days remained.
‘Today is the best day of my life.’
Prezia thought, gazing up at the bright blue sky.
It was a day when dazzling sunlight poured down.
