Crazy Match, Crazy Guy - CHAPTER 5 - Part 2
Changing direction from her home, Wooyoung went to Sungkyung’s Cafe. Upon entering, she saw that almost every table was occupied, except for a couple of tables.
Wooyoung walked up to Sungkyung as she was making coffee.
“Quite busy with customers today, huh?”
Sungkyung, startled while pouring coffee, turned her head.
“When did you get here?”
“Just now.”
“Do you want coffee?”
“No. I’d like a cold Coke.”
“Coke’s in the fridge.”
Nodding, Wooyoung took out a 500ml cola from the fridge and popped open the cap. The fizzy carbonation tickled her throat as it went down.
“Ah, refreshing.”
After handing the finished coffee to the customer, Sungkyung came to stand next to Wooyoung.
“What are you doing here at this hour?”
“Just feeling frustrated. When’s the part-timer coming?”
“She should be coming soon.”
“Good. Let’s go for a drink.”
“What? Daytime drinking?”
“Who says you can only drink at night?”
“What’s going on?”
“Well…”
“Come on spill”
Just then, the part-time worker entered. Sungkyung greeted the worker and loosened her apron.
“Let’s head to my place.”
“Sure.”
Leaving the coffee shop, Wooyoung walked with Sungkyung to the neighborhood of their old high school. There was a snack bar there that they used to frequent, and it was still full of students.
“I remember those days.”
In response to Wooyoung’s words, Sungkyung rested her arm on her shoulder.
“Yeah. If we go back to that time, I would definitely not marry Hayeon’s dad.”
“Now you’re saying that after experiencing life.”
“Married life turned out to be nothing special. The fluttering feelings last only a moment. Over time, emotions become dull.”
“I haven’t gotten married yet. It’s all because of you that my fantasy about marriage got shattered.”
“Marriage isn’t a fantasy, it’s reality.”
“You should stop your talking.”
Crossing the pedestrian bridge, they arrived at the apartment building where Sungkyung lived.
Entering the supermarket located at the entrance of the apartment building, they leisurely bought beer and soju before heading to her apartment.
The living room was a mess of dolls, Legos and pajamas scattered around haphazardly. It seemed like wishing for cleanliness while raising a child was just an empty wish.
“I’ll clean up a bit, so sit at the table.”
After putting their purchased drinks in the fridge, Wooyoung sat down at the table. As she opened the can of beer, bubbles rose vigorously. She must have shaken it too much when she picked it up. Sipping the foam from her lips, Wooyoung’s gaze quickly swept through the living room as it was being tidied up.
“Sungkyung.”
“Yeah?”
“I’ve decided to move in with him.”
Sungkyung’s movements, as she was organizing Legos, abruptly stopped. Leaving her task unfinished, she walked over to the table where Wooyoung was sitting.
“Did I just hear you say you’re moving in together?”
“Yeah.”
“Oh my goodness!”
Snatching the beer can from Wooyoung’s hand, Sungkyung gulped it down rapidly. The 500ml beer can was emptied in no time.
Placing the empty can down with a thud, Sungkyung spoke up.
“You’re not even boyfriend and girlfriend, how are you supposed to live together with someone you met on the matchmaking?”
“I told you before. I’m giving arranged dates a try.”
“Are you seriously going to live with a guy you meet through arranged dates?”
“Yeah.”
“That’s ridiculous. Wait, arranged dates are meant to lead to marriage, right? So, isn’t it marriage you should be considering, not living together?”
“I told them I don’t want to get married, so Jang Tae Jin suggested living together.”
“Wow, that guy is something.”
Getting up from her seat, Sungkyung brought two more canned beers, soju, and glasses. Making bomb shots seemed like second nature to her, not something she had only done once or twice.
“There you go, drink up.”
Wooyoung neatly finished the bomb shot that Sungkyung had prepared.
“Refreshing!”
After downing the bomb shots, Sungkyung looked at Wooyoung with a serious expression.
“Are you allowed to live together?”
“I’m allowed to live together with him.”
“I’m more surprised that your father would allow you to live together in our country, where Confucian ideas are deeply rooted!”
“I guess he trusts Jang Tae Jin that much. Since I don’t want to get married, he’s like, ‘At least try to live together.'”
“If he like him that much, what about you?”
“Well…”
She looked a little shy. Even without answering, Sungkyung could tell that Wooyoung liked him.
“You’re not opposed to it either?”
“Honestly, no.”
“Is that guy good?”
“He’s totally great.”
“Is he handsome?”
“If you see him, you’d be stunned.”
“To that extent?”
“Yeah. You know how you’re speechless when you see a celebrity? That’s exactly how I felt when I first saw him.”
“That makes me even more curious. I want to see him.”
“You’ll get to see him if the opportunity arises.”
Wooyoung took another sip of the bomb shot Sungkyung had made for her, accompanied by a bitter smile.
“Why do you seem to be in such a bad mood today, even though you got permission to live together?”
“Well, actually…”
Wooyoung explained what had happened in Vasell. After hearing the story, Sungkyung cursed while taking a drink.
“Fuck, what a bastard.”
“I have to bring it to light this time. I can’t let them unfairly accuse me.”
“Of course! But why are you only telling me about this important matter now? It’s really frustrating.”
“I just didn’t want to get entangled with a dirty people, so I tried to forget about it… but today at the interview I realized I handled it badly when I shouldn’t have.”
“You did well. You’re going to make it right now. So, that guy, Yeom or whatever his name is, will be completely kicked out of this scene?”
While his actions were unforgivable, but hearing that he had a family of his own didn’t make it any less heartwarming.
“Why’s your expression like that?”
“Huh? What’s wrong with my expression?”
“It’s not exactly a joyful expression.”
“We don’t have any concrete evidence yet, so I can’t feel positive about it in advance.”
“If you didn’t do anything wrong, it will definitely come out honestly. Don’t worry about that.”
Wooyoung smiled bitterly and held out her glass.
“Here, roll me a drink.”
“Okay.”
Sungkyung, who had been making the bomb shots, quickly set down the alcohol.
“Oh, right. I’m going to pick up Hayeon and Haseung. The bus is due to arrive.”
“Sure.”
A few minutes later, Sungkyung returned with Hayeon and Haseung.
When the children saw her, they greeted her happily.
“Our Hayeon is getting prettier and prettier. Give your aunt a kiss.”
Bashfully, Hayeon smiled and planted a kiss on Wooyoung’s cheek.
Wooyoung’s lips curled up with delight as she affectionately stroked the children’s hair.
“Whenever I see Hayeon and Haseung, I wish I had a child who looks like me.”
“Then you should get married instead of just cohabiting.”
Hayeon grabbed Sungkyung’s arm and asked.
“What’s cohabiting?”
“Huh? It’s like when a family lives together in the same house, like us. Hayeon takes Haseung to your room to play.”
“Okay.”
As they disappeared into their room, Wooyoung rolled her eyes at Sungkyung.
“Be careful with what you say in front of the kids.”
“Hehe. I didn’t say anything untrue. So, I’m saying, get married.”
“It’s funny how you went from telling me not to have any fantasies about marriage, saying it will shatter once I experience reality, then outright suggesting I should get married.”
“Actually, there are a lot of good things about being married.”
“Why are you suddenly like this? You were lecturing me not to have any illusions about marriage because it’s a reality.”
“I felt like I was being too negative about marriage, so I’m apologizing.”
“It’s fine. I stopped fantasizing about marriage a long time ago.”
“But still, it’s better to get married than not.”
“Enough, stop talking about it.”
Sungyung felt like she had shown Wooyoung a pitiful sight, getting married at such a young age. It wasn’t unreasonable for Wooyoung to have a pessimistic view of marriage. Seeing Wooyoung opt for cohabitation over marriage, Sungyung finally realized.
“I’m a sinner.”
Wooyoung pursed her lips and walked over to the sofa.
“I’ll take a nap then leave.”
“But you shouldn’t drive. I’ll call a driver for you later.”
“Yeah, whatever.”
Yawning widely, Wooyoung sprawled out on the sofa.
Seeing her like that, Sungkyung tidied up and prepared snacks for the kids. After putting the snacks in the room, she came back to the living room. As she turned around, she noticed Wooyoung’s phone falling off the sofa so she picked it up.
Right then, the phone vibrated. Sungkyung’s eyes widened when she saw the caller’s name.
“Jang Tae Jin?”
