Evelyn obediently got up from her place and almost collapsed as her legs gave way when she tried to get down from the bed. She forced strength into her legs as magic continued to seep from the sword tip still pointed at her. Then, she discreetly pulled the sheet to cover her exposed body.
“Even as a pr*stitute hired by the Empress, it seems you still have some minimum sense of shame.”
“Since I’m not a pr*stitute hired by the Empress, could you please consider that I do have a minimum sense of shame?”
“Shut up.”
Luinel snorted and moved his magic-formed sword with precision. The sheet covering Evelyn’s body was cut exactly in half.
Swoosh. Beyond the falling sheet, her fair skin and full br*asts were revealed, but Luinel showed not the slightest reaction. Instead, he commanded with eyes that seemed to pour cold fire:
“Lead the way to the Empress’s bedroom. That is where you will die.”
Luinel had been biding his time to catch decisive evidence that could cut off the Empress’s breath. However, while working behind the scenes to place the Third Prince on the throne, the Empress had carefully avoided crossing the line. It was always regrettable that she wasn’t stupid enough to act recklessly, relying solely on the Emperor’s favor.
She must have become anxious after seeing him being paired with the Saintess at today’s emergency meeting. If he were to develop a marital relationship with the Saintess who had appeared in the Empire after a hundred years, his position would become even more solid than it was now.
“If you could just listen to my story for one minute before that, I would be really grateful.”
“I have no interest in your story. If you say one more word, you’ll face the Empress with only your head, having lost your body… Kuhuk!”
The tip of Luinel’s sword wavered as he was pressing Evelyn with fierce intensity. Evelyn, who had been reluctantly walking toward the bedroom entrance, hesitated and looked back. Luinel was clutching his chest area while taking rough breaths. It was the precursor to a magical seizure.
‘This might actually be fortunate.’
It would be disastrous if her real identity were to be revealed after going to the Empress’s bedroom in this state. Perhaps the developers weren’t completely without conscience, as Luinel’s body quickly began to collapse due to the timely seizure.
The sword that had been threatening her dispersed in midair as Luinel fell to his knees on the bed. Magic was flowing through his entire body like an electric current as he gasped for breath. Even at a glance, Luinel’s life seemed to be in critical danger.
This might be the perfect opportunity to complete the main quest. If not now, there would likely be no chance for her, already branded as a pr*stitute or assassin in Luinel’s mind. So Evelyn pushed aside her instinctive aversion and fear and approached Luinel, who was writhing in agony.
Magical seizure—a disease that the imperial family, born with strong magical powers due to what might be either a blessing or curse of blood, inevitably suffered from.
Luinel before her was said to have been born with the most powerful magic among the imperial family, so the intensity of his pain would be even greater.
“Are you alright, Your Highness?”
Evelyn, who had approached right in front of him, reached out her hand to support Luinel, but his hand, wrapped in magic, roughly pushed her away. It happened to be the hand she had injured while in cat form, and it hurt so much that physiological tears welled up, but she endured it.
Even while clutching his left chest and gasping for breath, Luinel glared at Evelyn, who had come within arm’s reach, with sharp, fierce eyes.
“What… huff… what did you do to Charles?”
“Let’s focus on treatment for now. You can kill me after your body recovers. And I’m not a pr*stitute sent by the Empress, but Evelyn, who has been staying at the High Priest’s Grand Temple recently.”
“…Evelyn?”
At the strangely familiar name, Luinel searched his memory despite the pain that felt like his entire body’s blood vessels were burning. If his memory was correct, it was the name mentioned when the High Priest reported to the Emperor about the Saintess.
“Surely you’re not going to make the absurd claim that you are the Saintess, are—huk!”
Sparks more powerful than before flew from Luinel’s body as he positioned himself ready to summon a magic sword to slit her throat at any moment. Although the intervals between his seizures had been gradually shortening recently, they had never caused such serious trouble.
A delicate hand touched Luinel’s shoulder as he trembled with his eyes rolling back. With a grip so weak it was almost laughable, she firmly held his shoulder. Simultaneously, with the sensation of his body falling backward, Evelyn, who had climbed on top of him, spoke in a resolute voice despite her pale face.
“If you’re not treated now, Your Highness might die. So please bear with it a little, even if you don’t like it.”
“What nonsense are you suddenly…”
Evelyn, who had been glaring at the [Time remaining until Crown Prince’s death: 59:23] that appeared above Luinel’s head, swallowed his lips that were spewing only hateful words. In truth, she was terrified enough to want to escape immediately, taking advantage of Luinel’s confused consciousness.
But if she couldn’t heal Luinel here, everything would be over. If she treated his seizure, perhaps she could dispel some of the Crown Prince’s misunderstanding about her. If he asked why she had infiltrated the palace as a cat, she planned to insist that she had eaten a potion bought from a street vendor and transformed as a result.
Even while trembling with fear that Luinel could kill her at any moment, Evelyn diligently extended her tongue to penetrate Luinel’s lips. As their tongues intertwined deeply, sticky saliva mingled. The saliva traveled down Luinel’s throat as he struggled to push Evelyn away despite suffering from the magical seizure.
Then the terrible pain, like an invisible hand squeezing his heart filled with magic and setting fire to his blood vessels, began to fade gradually.
Perhaps that was why, at some point, Luinel knocked Evelyn down and climbed on top of her, frantically sucking on her tongue. It was an action closer to an instinct and desire for survival rather than a s*xual act.
“Mmm….”
A long silver thread stretched between their briefly separated lips. Luinel silently looked down at Evelyn, who was lying beneath him, gasping for breath. Unlike earlier, when his eyes were filled only with fierce killing intent, his eyes now were full of confusion.
‘Could she really be the Saintess and not some pr*stitute sent by the Empress?’
Otherwise, there would be no way his magical seizure could subside so rapidly, like being given a sedative, just from their tongues intertwining. Although the needle-like pain in his heart remained, the magic that had been leaking out of control had definitely calmed down.
Even though the intensity was greater than usual, normally, when magic starts to rampage like this, no one can calm him down. This is because the backflowing magic recognizes everyone who approaches him as an enemy and attacks them.
Therefore, whenever a seizure came, Luinel would always lock himself in his bedroom or crawl into the now-closed Empress’s palace to endure until the symptoms subsided.
But the woman before him had not only instantly calmed his rampaging magic but also erased the pain that had been whitening his vision. And all with just one wet kiss. Luinel roughly wiped his mouth and glared at Evelyn.
“If you really are the Saintess, why are you in my bedroom in the middle of the night looking like that?”
“That’s a complicated story to explain. Could I finish the treatment first?”
“…Not satisfied with sucking on someone else’s lips as you please. You want to continue?”
“I’ve temporarily stopped the immediate seizure, but in this state, it will start again before long. Your Highness needs proper treatment.”
The woman, or rather Evelyn, was excessively calm. She hardly looked like someone who had just been threatened with death while n*ked. It was frustrating, but she was right. The temporarily quieted magic was beginning to writhe and backflow through his blood vessels the longer he spoke with Evelyn.
Bluish veins bulged prominently on Luinel’s arm as he braced it beside Evelyn’s head.
“I’ve never heard of a Saintess who heals with her body. What proof do you have that you’re not a magical beast disguised as a human?”
“Isn’t a magical beast that heals humans stranger than a Saintess who heals with her body? And my magic can only exert its powerful force through bodily fluids. Especially with someone like Your Highness, who has naturally strong magic, basic healing skills—I mean abilities—don’t work well.”
Magic that only manifests through bodily fluids? Despite being appointed Crown Prince at a young age and having studied countless subjects and read books related to magic, he had truly never heard of a claim like Evelyn’s.
