“There was no need to upgrade my ticket.”
Chaeyoon said as they headed to the airport VIP lounge early in the morning. Luckily, the weather had improved and they were able to catch their flight today.
“It would be ridiculous if we fly together and I’m the only one in first class.”
“I don’t see what’s funny about that.”
“It’s like making you shiver from the cold while I’m the only one wearing a long padded coat.”
“How can a padded coat and first-class be the same?”
“They are the same. I’d feel guilty sitting comfortably in first class while you’re cramped in economy. Plus, there are extra seats in first class, and it’s easy to upgrade, I know that.”
“Yeah, that’s the scale of a chaebol for you. Thank you.”
Seonho had also paid for the extra night’s accommodation they had stayed the previous day.
In fact, Chaeyoon was used to such conveniences through her friendship with Joo-eun. Initially, she had been uncomfortable with such excessive generosity and had even refused it.
However, she quickly realized that what was excessive for her was nothing for them, and her refusal felt rather unnecessary. Chaeyoon decided to graciously accept what was offered to her.
It wasn’t like she had asked for anything; she didn’t see the need to make a fuss by refusing. She considered it a benefit of having a chaebol friend.
While this initially only applied to her relationship with Joo-eun, she now comfortably accepted Seonho’s kindness as well.
“What’s this? You’re even saying thank you now?”
“Can you not make me out to be such an ungrateful person? I know how to be thankful. It’s just that you often say things in such an annoying way that I don’t express it.”
Upon entering the VIP lounge’s private room, she found it equipped with luxurious leather sofas far superior to the stiff chairs in the regular waiting area, along with an assortment of finger foods and drinks that could easily satisfy a light hunger.
“This is nice. Maybe I should switch my card to one that gives access to the VIP lounge.”
“The Jeju airport is small, so it’s kind of lacking. Still, Nara Airlines is the best option.”
“But their tickets are the most expensive, haha.”
Chaeyoon poured some freshly brewed coffee into her cup and loaded her plate with sandwiches and muffins.
“Want some juice?”
Seonho offered Chaeyoon a glass filled with citrus juice.
“Yep. What should I do? I think I’m going to crave citrus juice from now on.”
Since coming to Jeju Island, Chaeyoon has developed a taste for citrus juice. She seriously wondered if tangerines were sold in other countries.
“It definitely tastes different from oranges.”
“I guess I’ll just have to eat a lot before I go.”
Having brought food to their table, Chaeyoon continued the conversation they were having on the way to the airport. She found it quite interesting and wanted to discuss it more.
“So, you’re planning to offer a subscription service for luxury cars, both domestic and international?”
“Renting or leasing is already saturated, so we want to increase the number of cars you can drive without paying taxes or insurance.”
“So, you’re aiming to offer the fun of choosing what to drive?”
“Cars are one of the dreams of many men, right? Nowadays, people in their 20s and 30s believe that even if they don’t have a house, they must have a car. They don’t hesitate to spend to what they want rather than own it.”
“That seems to be the trend. So, how are you planning to select the subscription models?”
“I got really into sports cars after I got my driver’s license and even collected some at one point.”
“Yeah, someone like you should at least collect sports cars.”
Chaeyoon chuckled.
“Still, I couldn’t buy them all, so I used to swap around with other people.”
“Hmm, so you’re aiming for the premium level, because even if the subscription fee is high, you won’t be able to afford the actual ride.”
Chaeyoon quickly understood what Seonho meant.
“That’s exactly what I’m saying. Plus, you won’t have to worry about maintenance or repairs since the ownership periods will be short.”
“Since the premium level is expensive, the number of members will be limited, so why don’t you create two plans?”
“Two?”
“One for Premium level and the other could be a ‘choice’ level. The choice level could be more practical, allowing changes of cars based on needs like commuting, dating, or outdoor activities.”
Seonho looked surprised at Chaeyoon’s words.
“Yeah, that’s a great idea. I hadn’t thought of that.”
“That’s an idea that can come from the mind of the common man. Maybe if you add a little extra fee, members can use a premium car once a year. People would like that.”
Chaeyoon tapped her temple with her finger, highlighting her thought process.
“That’s something to add. I’m glad I talked to you about it.”
“It sounds fun to hear about it. Makes me want to jump in and work too.”
“Come over. I’ll pay you a good salary. It would be fun to work together.”
“If I think I’m not good enough as a designer, I’ll put in a request.”
Chaeyoon joked.
“You’re not biting, huh?”
Seonho looked disappointed.
They returned to their previous discussion.
“I’m sure your group can solve the problem of high initial capital, but I’m not sure if the higher-ups will accept.”
“There’s a lot of ignorance about the sharing economy.”
“The older generation, who are used to owning things, might find it hard to understand the young generation’s culture of renting based on convenience and practicality. Naturally, they might be skeptical.”
“We’ll have to persuade them. Timing is everything, right? Too early and it fails; too late and you miss the opportunity to lead. We need to start now.”
“That’s what I think, too. That’s very you, Seonho. Looks like you’re about to make a big move. No wonder you were so confident. …Yawn.”
Chaeyoon, still feeling sleepy, poured herself another cup of coffee.
“Do you really think so?”
Seonho’s face was very serious, showing his deep interest in the discussion and her opinions.
