I'm A Sucker For Extras - Chapter 35
Chapter 35
Ratua firmly approached them with a sturdy posture, standing in front of them with broad shoulders. After briefly glancing at Aidan and Brody, he suddenly grabbed the white man’s head and pushed it downward.
Under that touch, the white man bowed deeply, as if in greeting.
Ratua, who also lowered his head, said, “Thank you.”
“…What?”
Although Brody was taken aback by the sudden intimidating atmosphere, she blinked in confusion when Ratua unexpectedly expressed gratitude.
“Maybe this guy caused trouble. Ah, should I have said ‘sorry’ instead?”
In response to Ratua’s words, the white man widened his eyes as if amused and smiled, rolling his eyes.
Even though his head was forcibly grabbed, there was no sign of displeasure.
“But, Adonia, what’s really going on?”
Ratua asked, lightly stroking his own stomach. It seemed like he was concerned that the Rupe tribe member might have been caught up in some trouble.
But Adonia, instead, asked with concern, “Are you still hurt?”
“I’m sick as hell, and I’m throwing up on a ship with no doctor, but what about you? What’s wrong with you?”
In response to Ratua’s inquiry, Adonia answered with a slight snicker. His tone was light, even with a hint of a nasal sound.
“Oh~ I lost my bracelet!”
“What?”
It happened in an instant. As soon as Ratua heard those words, he grabbed the white man’s collar and pulled him down.
As a result, the tall Ratua made the white man dangle in his large hand.
“Have you gone mad, losing your identification plaque? Then we can’t disembark; we have to go back, eh? You mean we have to go back for two days and three nights like this? Oh, damn it…”
“Hehe.”
Ratua growled for a moment, then seemed to lose strength and release him, patting his stomach again. After frowning for a moment, he went back into the ship.
Probably, he seemed to have rushed to the toilet.
Watching his frantic movements as if struck by lightning, Brody and Aidan stood there bewildered.
Neither of them looked like priests, no matter how you looked at them.
“Sorry. He was a bit out of sorts. He’s not a bad guy.”
Brody awkwardly smiled and shrugged her shoulders, while Aidan squinted his eyes and looked up at the sky.
“The seagull took the identification plaque. Is that what you mean?”
At Aidan’s gesture, both Brody and Adonia looked up at the sky. Some seagulls were visible on the high mast, but they couldn’t figure out which one was being referred to.
“Do you see that…?”
Brody asked with wide eyes.
“Um, I can see a silver piece sparkling in its beak.”
“Ah…?”
Adonia sighed deeply.
It was fortunate that it wasn’t lost in the sea. But whether it was lost in the sea or taken by a seagull, it was practically the same for Adonia.
“If we find that, it’ll be okay, right?”
“What?”
Was it because of his regret for discriminating against him as a “Rupe tribe” member?
Aidan told the crew about it and borrowed a bow and arrows.
Adonia pondered and asked, “Are you going to go…… shoot a seagull?”
“Just the bracelet.”
He pulled the arrow, assuming a proper stance.
Aidan, who had been gauging the angle, shot the arrow without hesitation after a moment of hesitation.
“Twang!”
The startled seagull quickly flew off the mast.
The arrow flew in a parabolic arc and lodged in the far stern railing.
Adonia, who had run after it, had his white robes fluttering.
“Ouch, that’ll take the hood off!”
Brody looked at the approaching Adonia with a tense expression.
But the man, with his mouth wide open, didn’t seem to care about such things at all.
In one hand, he held an arrow, and in the other, a sparkling piece of metal.
“Sir! Really! You seem like someone out of a legend! How is that possible? And… the arrow hit this tiny chain on the seagull’s face!”
“Don’t make a fuss. I don’t want to attract attention.”
“Oh, yes! Sorry! But wow, wow!”
Aidan was taken aback. Usually, when he spoke so bluntly, most people closed their mouths and subtly avoided him.
But this priest, who looked like a white hamster, constantly babbled despite Aidan’s stern expression.
Amusedly watching the two, Brody rummaged through his pockets.
Then she handed Adonia a solid ointment and a herbal remedy made into a salve.
“You can apply the ointment, and this medicine is for your company. If you take it about three times a day, it should help.”
“Are you giving it to me? Wow!”
Adonia accepted the medicine with a smile. Despite the open discrimination against him as a Rupe tribe member, he seemed like an oddly carefree person.
“I can’t stay still after receiving a gift. By the way, ma’am, are you not feeling well anywhere?”
In response to Adonia’s question, Brody looked at Aidan once and then replied.
“No, it’s okay. I was a bit sick, but I got better. However, I’ve been lying down during my illness, so I feel a bit weak now…”
“Ah, I see. Then, may I assist in your recovery with divine power? If you don’t mind receiving it from me.”
“Is that possible?”
“Yes! If it’s an innate issue, it might require a high-ranking priest, but for general healing, I should be sufficient.”
Aidan stood quietly behind Brody, observing the situation.
Is it okay to accept? If not, Aidan will surely intervene to stop it, Brody thought and agreed.
“Then, please.”
“Oh, yes.”
Even though it was within his authority, Adonia responded as if her acceptance was somewhat unexpected.
While some people sympathetically treated him well due to his discrimination, no one willingly accepted prayers or treatments from him.
But to Brody, who came from a different world, Adonia was just a priest—nothing more and nothing less than a pretty one.
Adonia approached with a pleased smile, found a low stool about a foot high, and seated Brody on it. Holding Brody’s hands, he began reciting a prayer.
A soft white light emanated from Adonia, enveloping their joined hands and covering Brody’s body.
The once-heavy feeling in her body gradually lightened.
As Brody stared at his pale body in wonder, Adonia, who hadn’t let go of her hands, suddenly spoke.
“Uh, ma’am, are you……?”
He looked at Brody with a puzzled expression.
Adonia suddenly bent at the waist and sniffed the air like an animal. Brody, feeling uncomfortable with him openly smelling her, moved away awkwardly.
“What are you doing?”
Aidan, who was already feeling uncomfortable about a strange person touching Brody’s hand, pushed it away, offended by his sudden behavior.
“Your wife smells like wood, and…….”
Shudder. Brody was surprised at the mention of the “scent of wood.” Could it be that there’s a way for him to detect her abilities? If so, it would be troublesome.
As she wondered about it, the color of the light emanating from Adonia began to change.
It shifted from white to blue.
“I sense a cursed aura from the lady.”
The strange voice undoubtedly came from Adonia, but it didn’t feel like it was his voice. More than anything, the content was shocking.
‘A cursed aura? Is he referring to the magic poison Jax fed me? ’
She wanted to ask, but strangely, her lips didn’t move.
Brody listened with a reverent look on his face and a voice that sounded as majestic as an organ.
‘What…… is this? ’
Brody was stunned by the unfamiliarity. Unperturbed by her bewilderment, Adonia spoke, her face half-closed in a blank stare.
“You’re going north, very north.”
“Ah, there is something waiting for you, my lady.”
“It is an…… old…… very sad…….”
In front of her, a blurry figure appeared. Two deep blue eyes, like sapphires, flickered like flames as they stared at her.
A feeling of tightness and pain overwhelmed Brody’s heart.
“Ugh.”
“Cold. I’m cold. I’m cold. I’m so…….”
As she looked around, everything was bathed in bright blue glacial light. Brody suddenly felt a chill from the rapidly emerging cold.
The hands held by Adonia trembled. But he couldn’t tell if Adonia was shaking or if it was Brody herself.
Soon, a tremendous cold engulfed her. It felt like frost was forming from inside her mouth to her lungs, freezing piece by piece.
“It’s a cruel aura… It will freeze the lady’s entire body.”
“No… Please stop… Stop…”
Brody expelled her freezing breath in short gasps, and her gaze, filled with despair, met Adonia’s frozen eyes.
Suddenly, a voice came from the darkness.
“But, but the lady…”
“Shut up!”
“What!”
Suddenly, Brody’s vision brightened in an instant.
In front of her was a rather worn and rough wooden floor.
“Huh.”
Brody let out a ragged breath and slid to the floor. Her breathing was ragged, as if she was having trouble breathing.
‘What the hell was that…… What the hell……?’
She shook her head, clutching her heart, and looked up to see the silver-skinned Ratua holding Adonia by the scruff of his neck.
And right next to him, Aidan was holding his sword near Adonia’s uvula.
Aidan looked terrifying, like he could cut him down at any moment.
Ratua felt a cold sweat on his back, thinking that if he had been just a step slower, it would have been dangerous. However, without showing his confusion, he grabbed Adonia by the collar and shook it vigorously, swearing.
“Who do you think you’re trying to deal with, you little bastard? If the master had seen this, he would have plucked all your hair out!”
Ratua apologized to Brody and Aidan while dragging Adonia along.
“I’m sorry. Originally, the prophecy shouldn’t be in the practice stage. This kid is inexperienced in controlling it. He’s untrained without any sense of context.”
“That’s right! It’s nonsense. Don’t pay attention to it.”
Adonia, even after saying this, confidently shouted not to listen, and strangely, he was laughing.
“Huh!”
Caught off guard by their momentum, Brody and Aidan missed the opportunity to get angry with Adonia and said, “Prophecy?”
Was what he just said a prophecy? Brody furrowed her eyebrows, recalling what he had said. Aidan supported the leaning Brody on the floor and growled.
“A prophecy? Isn’t that something only an approved high-ranking priest should do?”
Upon Aidan’s correct statement, Ratua finally slapped the back of the just-standing Adonia’s head and shouted.
“What are you laughing about, like you did something good? Apologize quickly.”
Adonia, who was hit, obediently apologized to Aidan and Brody.
“I’m sorry! It wasn’t intentional.”
Ratua politely explained it to the two.
“This guy’s healing divine power is top-notch, but his prophecy is completely useless. If the master had seen this scene, he would have scolded him. As you know, because of his origin, if he gets caught, he could be expelled from the religious community. Please overlook this generously.”
Knowing that this guy was a ripper, yet these people treated him, he received treatment from him. It was clear that they had a favorable opinion of the Rupe, or at least sympathy for them. With that understanding, Latua pleaded for leniency, citing Adonia’s origins.
Adonia interjected from the side.
“Yes, yes! Don’t even think about it as much as a barnacle stuck to a boat!”
“Shut your mouth!”
Brody, feeling uncomfortable with Ratua’s harsh treatment of Adonia more than Adonia’s prophecy, waved her hand.
She had a feeling Ratua was going to throw her overboard if he didn’t do something about it.
“Enough. It’s not a matter of life and death. Stop apologizing.”
Adonia raised his eyes briefly, looked at Brody, and then lifted his head lively with a smile.
However, Aidan, putting his sword away, was still glaring at him. Facing his sharp eyes, Adonia scratched his head as if apologizing and chuckled.
‘Is he laughing? ‘
Against the terrifying atmosphere of the Northern Duke, who could make even ordinary people pee their pants, Adonia seemed extraordinarily nonchalant.
“By the way, Adonia, do you remember what you told me?”
“What did I say?”
“You said I was under a curse.”
“Did I say that? I’m not aware of the prophecies I make.”
“…I see.”
Brody sighed with regret, wondering if he could break the spell Jax had cast on him. Well, it shouldn’t have been this easy to find.
