Ririana spent four more days at Evergreen like that.
Lian also stayed with her despite being busy with work. Even when she said he could go first if he was really busy, he said they should go together after she recovered. No matter how long it took, that much was fine. So she could focus solely on recovering her body with a grateful heart.
Because she had decided to take better care of her body this time.
If she took good care of herself like now, perhaps she could become a little healthier and this time see Belle become an adult, form a happy family. Even see her confidently become the head of the family. That was something to look forward to.
Because Lobelia was a smart, spirited, and healthy child.
A beaming smile burst out. Ririana smiled brightly at Serina, who was carefully bringing more pillows to place behind her back so she wouldn’t be uncomfortable as she sat leaning against the bed.
She was like an older sister to her.
Serina, who was five years older than her and the daughter of her nanny who had been her mother’s personal maid, had taken care of her together with her nanny since she was born. Then after her mother passed away, she became her personal maid and took care of her in place of her nanny.
Her nanny, who had been her mother’s personal maid, was greatly shocked by her mother’s death and quit her job not long after her mother passed away, then passed away in a quiet mountain village. Fortunately, Serina was in good health at that time, so she could stay by her nanny’s side for a very long time before returning to her.
She would have sent her even if her health hadn’t been good.
Since she couldn’t go, she asked Serina to stay by her side for her share too.
And after returning, she continued to take care of her. She followed her all the way to Greywoods. Even after meeting a good person there, getting married and settling down, she continued to stay by her side. She had one son who was six years younger than her daughter. Belle had cherished that child like a younger brother.
His name had been Hazel.
“What’s wrong, Miss?”
She couldn’t correct that form of address until Lobelia could speak. When others were around, she would call her Madam sharp as a knife, but when they were alone, she would call her Miss until that adorable child could speak.
Lobelia was Little Miss, and she was Miss.
Then once Lobelia called her Miss, she corrected it after that.
“It’s nothing.”
Serina smiled sweetly and prettily. Serina, who had brown hair and eyes the same color as her hair, couldn’t be more gentle when she smiled, and the way the mole next to her nose crinkled was cute.
“You’ve been smiling like that for no reason ever since you woke up. You must be really happy about getting married.”
It wasn’t really like that, but since Serina smiled as if she was happy, Ririana quietly closed her mouth. The thin green chiffon curtain swayed in the breeze.
“His Grace will close it when he comes.”
He probably would. Since that day, Lian had been stopping by her room around this time and staying for about ten minutes.
This hadn’t happened before.
After marriage, they immediately returned to Greywoods, where she was busy managing the household and Lian was busy with his work. They barely met once every three or four days. It was like that in their early days of marriage. And even now he was busy with work, bringing in documents.
Every time he came, he would close the window for ventilation, saying she might catch a cold. Even though it was summer and this level of breeze felt pleasant.
“So let’s keep it open until then.”
“Yes, Miss.”
Serina appropriately drew back the bed curtains. Delicately, so the gentle breeze would touch her face just right. Then she sat in the chair by the bed and began knitting a new scarf for her to wear starting this fall, as she always did. Her mother had done this until she passed away, and Serina had been doing it since.
“It’s yellow this time.”
“Even though Miss has gotten married. That doesn’t mean you have to immediately wear only dignified colors.”
Then she winked clumsily and grinned.
“This suits you the best, Miss. Green or yellow, brown tones are pretty too. Blue is pretty too. Actually, nothing wouldn’t suit you. You’re our pretty Miss. Hmm, I wonder what would suit Little Miss, I’m looking forward to it. Little Miss would look good in anything too. Since Miss is so pretty.”
Belle looked best in blue tones or green tones like her. She looked good in other colors too.
Actually, there was no color that didn’t suit that child. The child with her hair color and Lian’s blue eyes was the cutest in the world, looking adorable in anything she wore or did.
“Then you’ll have to knit three scarves.”
For Lobelia, herself, and Serina’s, a total of three.
Come to think of it, even though she always did this, she had never given one to Lian. Even though Serina was a personal maid, it would be a bit awkward to give him something she made. So even though Lobelia and she wore matching ones, they had never given Lian the same thing.
She had once bought the same color and given it to him when Lobelia was very young……
“Should I learn knitting too?”
“Miss?”
Serina tilted her head. Her hobbies were drawing birds or flowers, embroidering, and playing piano for a few minutes on days when her body felt fine. She wasn’t very good at drawing, and though she played piano quite well, she had to rest for quite a while after playing two pieces. But she had done embroidery for a long time and was good at it.
So she thought she might be able to do knitting well too, even though she had never tried it.
“Yes. I thought I’d give Lian the same thing too.”
“Oh, that’s a good idea.”
Serina bustled about and got up from her seat to come a little closer to the bedside. Then she took out several balls of yarn from the basket she had and chose a yellow yarn in a slightly darker tone than hers. It was soft and luxurious yarn that wouldn’t irritate the skin.
“You can knit slowly on the way in the carriage. And even after you get to Greywoods, you can do it little by little. But you must only do it within limits that won’t strain your body, okay?”
“Yes. I will.”
Then a lesson on how to knit scarves continued for quite a while. She looked excited, just like when she first taught her embroidery. It was a familiar sight. What she remembered was from when she was a bit older, but Serina had made this face every day after Lobelia was born.
Because children learn something new every day.
She remembered when that child first called her Mama and took her first steps. She had been so happy she could cry when the child toddled over and hugged her. Serina would support her when she swayed, unable to bear even that small weight.
Ah, she missed that child so much.
Even though it would still take about two years before she could hold her in her arms.
“Do you understand up to here?”
“Yes.”
It was easier than expected. Serina handed over the scarf she had been knitting to her and had her practice a few stitches. She corrected and fixed her mistakes. Though it was a bit loose because she lacked strength, she still completed one row.
“Wonderful, Miss!”
She clapped her hands and smiled brightly. Even though the clumsiness was clearly visible. Serina was always like that. Ririana burst into a small laugh and casually handed what she had been knitting back to Serina. She skillfully unraveled the part she had knitted and knitted it perfectly again.
“I’ll teach you diligently in the carriage. Of course, only when Miss is feeling fine. You said you’d depart the day after tomorrow, right?”
She nodded. This morning the doctor said it would be fine to travel soon, and Lian suggested they travel with the doctor accompanying them. Father and her older brother agreed too.
“Excuse me, Ririana.”
It was Lian. The knock sounded exactly twice. Serina quickly got down from the bed. Then she organized the yarns neatly and put them under the bed before immediately straightening her posture. Ririana smiled and waited for her. Soon Serina finished tidying up, lowered her eyes demurely, and glanced at her very slightly.
“You may come in.”
When she blinked, she could see the same blue eyes as her beloved Lobelia. Lian, who had his hair neatly fixed back without any dishevelment, walked in slowly, looked at the window, and let out a small sigh.
“Proper ventilation is good for the body.”
“But your cheeks seem to have no warmth.”
Really? Ririana tilted her head and had Serina touch her cheek. ‘It is a little cold,’ she whispered and politely stepped back to stand by the wall near the door.
“Haven’t you just woken up not long ago.”
Saying so, he lightly flicked his fingers to close the door. She felt a little regretful that the gentle summer breeze disappeared. When Ririana looked at the window with regret, Lian sighed softly and opened it again by about one finger’s width.
