“How about using magic instead? I think we could set up a medium here and overlay an illusion.”
Kiriel spoke with confidence while clenching and unclenching his hand.
‘If we hire someone, we’ll have to worry about that aspect too, but if his magic works, it would be relatively easier.’
Intrigued, Kana’s eyes sparkled.
“Could you perhaps show me an example?”
“Of course I can.”
Kiriel took out a small wooden doll from his spatial storage, placed it behind the counter, and snapped his fingers.
Then, an ordinary-looking man with a modest impression appeared in front of the jewelry display.
He bowed politely to them.
“Welcome. I’m Del, an employee of the jewelry shop. How may I help you?”
“I’d like to look at the jewels.”
“I’ll guide you.”
Del naturally attended to Kana, who was playing the role of a customer. Even from a supporting character’s perspective, his actions were smooth. She clapped with a satisfied expression.
“Kiriel, this is really good! Will it be okay to keep operating like this?”
“Yes. This much is fine.”
“Then let’s post a job notice just in case, but if we don’t find suitable people, we’ll keep him.”
“Alright.”
After compromising, they wrote the notice. As they were about to leave the shop in Del’s care, she unconsciously checked the gleaming ruby on her ring finger and stopped him.
“Kiriel, wait a moment.”
“Why?”
“Let’s change the rings to match the setting. This one stands out too much because it’s too fancy.”
“Oh, really?”
Kiriel tilted his head in confusion. By his standards, it looked modest enough.
He had originally custom-made the ring considering her preferences, aiming for a clean and luxurious feel.
Kana calmly answered while removing the ruby ring from her finger and putting it in the ring’s spatial storage.
“Yes. We need to pay attention to the detailed aspects of our assigned roles. According to the setting, commoners usually use pearls for wedding rings, but…… somewhat wealthy people use sapphires. Let’s switch to appropriate sapphire rings here.”
“Understood.”
Kiriel followed Kana’s judgment.
They chose modest sapphire rings and put them on their ring fingers. They even adjusted their appearances according to the setting while looking in the wall mirror, but Kiriel was the problem.
No matter how modest his attire, they couldn’t hide his strikingly handsome appearance and the inherently noble atmosphere that showed through. Kana sighed while touching her forehead.
“……Oh my, we can’t hide your looks and vibe at all.”
“I’m worried about you being too pretty too.”
Kiriel bit his lip anxiously. Her modest but neat attire created a pure atmosphere. It stirred his heart in a different way than when she was dressed elaborately.
He vowed to secretly bury anyone strange who bothered her while working.
After all, in a world without people possessing powers, it only mattered that the female protagonist, their mission target, stayed alive.
Unaware of his dark thoughts, Kana recalled her experience as a supporting character and responded casually.
“I’ll be fine. I’m confident I can blend in appropriately while responding to situations.”
“Hmm.”
Kiriel’s eyes narrowed. Kana shook her head and quickly spoke.
“Standing here fretting will just waste precious time…… Let’s go for now. I’ll take the lead, so watch and learn from beside me.”
“Okay.”
Kana led Kiriel out of the jewelry shop with the mindset of a senior embracing a junior colleague.
Fortunately, the coffee house ‘Corn Panna’ across the street was quiet. Perfect conditions for observing the female protagonist.
The two exchanged serious glances before entering the coffee house. Inside the cozy atmosphere, an elegant-looking employee greeted them with a gentle smile.
“Welcome.”
It was the female protagonist Elina. Tied-up brown hair, straight eyebrows with deep lake-blue eyes, a straight nose and soft pink lips forming a gentle curve, and a moon-like pure white face.
‘She slightly resembles Miss Evie.’
Overall, she had beautiful looks with a pure and delicate feel and an elegant atmosphere, and as befitting a female protagonist, she had a distinct presence.
Though she must have suffered emotionally because of her husband and the Dekrom family members, she appeared fine on the outside. She didn’t look like someone who would die from health issues or from incurring someone’s grudge.
When Kana returned the greeting with a gentle smile and ordered coffee, the kindly-looking coffee house owner suddenly appeared. She carefully opened the conversation while alternately examining the two.
“I haven’t seen you around here before…… Are you new?”
“Yes. We just moved here recently. We also opened a jewelry shop across from this coffee house.”
Kana pretended to be excited while casually dropping information. The sapphire wedding ring on her ring finger, which she deliberately placed on the table, gleamed brightly to catch Elina’s attention. The female protagonist responded immediately.
“I was curious about that — so you’re the owners of that jewelry shop. Um, are you two perhaps married?”
“Oh, was it that obvious? Yes, we are.”
Kana blushed shyly and smiled brightly. Even though it was acting, she looked very lovely in Kiriel’s eyes. Naturally, his gaze toward her was filled with affection.
Elina felt bitter seeing the happy couple full of love. After marriage, she had tried hard and hoped to get along well with her husband, but all she received was indifference and cold treatment.
She didn’t show her bitter feelings and praised the customers with a forced smile.
“You two match really well. How long have you been married?”
“Hmm, not long. We dated for quite a while……”
When Kana winked and let her words trail off, Kiriel nodded in affirmation. The coffee house owner brought coffee and added.
“Wow, you must be in the honeymoon phase. If you dated for a long time and are still like this, you’ll probably continue to get along well.”
“Haha, what kind words.”
Kana responded good-naturedly to the owner’s words while sipping her coffee.
Kiriel rested his chin on his hand and carefully observed the supporting character focusing on work. She laid the groundwork with subtle hints, often showing her face with a bright smile.
“Wow, the coffee tastes really good! I already enjoy coffee frequently, so I’m glad there’s such a nice coffee house nearby.”
“Oh, then please come often. New customers are always welcome.”
“Yes.”
Though they had just met, a friendly atmosphere formed instantly.
Kana could pick up background information from the owner and Elina. In summary, it indicated this was a decent area to live in.
‘Even for a runaway female lead, it’s impressive that she fled to a foreign country without connections and is working.’
Letton, a small city the size of the Calypso region, was located in the eastern part of the Lis Kingdom, and Duke Dekrom’s estate where the male protagonist was located was in the northern part of the neighboring empire, so there was quite some distance.
While she was lost in thought, the coffee house owner who had been pouring out information casually asked.
“By the way, where did you two come from?”
“From the Deharten region.”
Kana naturally leaked the information from their setting. The owner nodded.
“Ah, so you came from the west. I know someone who lived there too. I heard it was quite nice to live in……”
“That may be true, but my husband and I really wanted to live in the east. So we saved money together and just came here.”
“I see. Well, it’s good to take challenges when you’re young.”
The coffee house owner, probably due to her age, had a friendly and generous attitude toward them.
Considering that she willingly employed the female protagonist who came wandering from a foreign country, she seemed close to being a good person.
While they were exchanging conversation over coffee, other customers came in. Kana secretly observed Elina and the customers together with Kiriel.
Elina showed the attitude of a kind employee, and none of the customers appeared suspicious. Then Celia, who was in the pure pearl bead of the necklace, blurted out.
[Kana, that female lead…… I feel like she’s carrying something inside.]
‘Really? I wonder if it’s related to her death.’
[Hmm, I can’t detect it clearly, so I’m not sure. It’s like seeing something wrapped in layers of cloth.]
‘……That’s quite concerning.’
She didn’t dismiss her partner’s words. Though it would be good to exchange opinions with Kiriel, they couldn’t conspicuously whisper here, and using sound barriers would be even more unnatural.
Kana glanced at him while drinking coffee. Kiriel wore a strange expression while rubbing his thumb and index finger together.
Was something bothering him? Concerned by his appearance, she put down her coffee cup and whispered in his ear.
“How is it?”
“It’s difficult to talk about here……”
Kiriel’s voice drawled lazily as he rolled his eyes. Fortunately, no one looked strangely at them sitting close together. Thanks to the wedding rings showing their presence on their ring fingers.
Kana quickly emptied her coffee cup and signaled to him with her eyes to leave. Understanding perfectly, Kiriel immediately emptied his cup too.
Before leaving, she didn’t forget to leave an impression on the coffee house owner and Elina.
“The coffee was great. I’ll visit again.”
“Yes.”
The two who left the coffee house returned to the jewelry shop across the street as if they had planned it. They went to the chairs prepared for customers in a corner and sat facing each other.
Kana carefully opened her mouth while looking at his slightly stiffened face.
“Kiriel, does the female lead have something?”
“Yes. Though I can’t clearly sense its form.”
He frowned in frustration. It was exactly the same as what the spirit said. Kana muttered while touching her chin.
“Hmm, Celia said something similar……”
