The two who had been immersed in the atmosphere for a while slightly separated their bodies. Kana mused nostalgically.
“……The Head Librarian has disappeared.”
“Probably returned to that library. Left at just the right time.”
Kiriel wiggled his fingers and laughed refreshingly. He looked relieved after completing all the tasks that needed to be resolved.
Understanding his feelings completely, she chuckled before looking around at the revitalized scenery.
“Indeed. Seeing how the frozen space is moving well again, it seems the measures are complete too.”
“Yeah.”
Kiriel also looked around following her. Kana carefully began speaking while adjusting her hooded cloak.
“Kiriel, since it’s late, we should return to our respective mansions.”
“Right. Can I escort you directly to your room this time? I have something to discuss too.”
“Do as you please.”
Kana accepted readily with a smiling face.
She no longer needed to be bound by her supporting character settings, and they had become proper lovers.
Getting used to staying in the same space while working in ‘Flower of Aidel’ also played a part.
Kiriel knew well how much she valued her personal space. His face bloomed into a smile as he realized again how their emotional distance had narrowed.
“Then let’s go.”
“Yes.”
Kana firmly grasped the hand he held out. When Kiriel used teleportation magic, the scenery instantly changed to ‘Kana Round’s’ room in the Round mansion.
The pale moonlight falling through the window dimly illuminated the room’s scenery. The room preserved exactly how it was right before she left.
While Kiriel snapped his fingers to lay soundproofing magic, Kana hung her cloak on the sofa, sat on the bed and muttered.
“Somehow I feel strange.”
“Why?”
Kiriel’s body leaned toward her. Kana let out an awkward laugh while looking at him gazing seriously.
“Hmm, I thought everything would end when we left…… but here we are, safely returned together.”
“A true happy ending.”
“I agree.”
The two burst out laughing while facing each other. Though others might not understand, it was even more precious as it was fruit earned through hardships they overcame together.
Suddenly Kiriel’s eyes turned wistful. He unconsciously muttered.
“Though it’s tiresome and odd to say again, I’m glad things worked out well.”
“Yes. Back then I was so anxious about what would happen if we failed. Though it wasn’t easy, since we resolved everything and returned well, I think these memories will become beautified later.”
Kana’s delicate eyelashes fluttered slowly. Kiriel played with the ends of her hair before whispering softly in her ear.
“Because this experience belongs only to us two?”
“Yes. Plus it’s also a secret we can’t tell anyone else.”
Though Kana flinched slightly at his breath on her skin, she responded calmly. Kiriel clapped while laughing refreshingly.
“True, even if we told others, they’d think it was nonsense. Especially since this world was frozen while we worked.”
“Right.”
After her response, the two fell into silence. For some reason, a strange tension hung between them. Kana carefully began speaking while looking at his awkwardly stiff appearance.
“Kiriel, you said you had something to say earlier. What is it?”
“Marry me.”
His mysterious purple eyes shone seriously. The line that felt heavier than usual appeared sincere to anyone who saw it.
Kana jumped up in surprise, not expecting those words right after returning.
“What?”
“I want to become a real husband to you, Kana, not just because of a setting.”
Kiriel knelt on one knee before her and took out two luxurious velvet boxes from his chest.
Opal and diamond rings sparkled brilliantly in the opened boxes.
‘Since opal means engagement and diamond means marriage…… Though skipping engagement, he’ll keep the rings. Or is he asking me to choose? More importantly, he’s moving in so quickly?’
While she blinked in considerable surprise, Kiriel released mana into the room. Roses of various colors formed from mana bloomed everywhere.
Red, white, and pink mixed together. The mana roses filling the floor, sofa, bed, and walls glowed faintly in the moonlight.
Though he delicately manipulated the mana to make the roses sway gently and emit a subtle fragrance, she had no leisure to notice that fact.
Kana looked back and forth between the two rings with round eyes. She felt slightly happy yet dazed, but Kiriel’s gaze was intense. She pointed at the rings and asked.
“Wait, when did you prepare the rings?”
“Before hearing your answer to my confession.”
“Ah, really?”
Kana tilted her head with her mouth slightly open. Before the answer meant he had prepared in advance before ‘Fake Saint’ concluded.
‘While I was in a messy state approaching the conclusion…… he was properly picturing our future together.’
She suddenly felt choked up and overwhelmed. How did he know what her answer to the confession would be? If it were her, she would have watched how things unfolded before acting.
His low, pleasant voice flowed gently into her ears as she lowered her eyes slightly.
“You said you’d consider it positively during the founding festival. If there was even a slight possibility, it would be better to prepare in advance.”
“What would you have done if I hadn’t accepted your confession?”
Feeling a pleasant excitement, Kana bent down toward him with a mischievous smile. Their faces grew closer.
Enchanted by her sparkling green eyes, Kiriel’s response came after a beat.
“Then I would have just stuffed them in a corner of subspace never to be taken out. Since the rings’ owner could only be you, Kana.”
“……You’re really hopeless.”
Kana snickered while brushing back her hair. Seeing a smile spread across her face, Kiriel quickly raised both hands higher to emphasize the rings.
“Will you accept?”
“Of course. Put it on my finger yourself. The diamond ring.”
Kana smiled slyly while placing the opal ring on the bedside table and holding out her right hand. She had tacitly agreed to his wish to skip engagement and go straight to marriage.
She who had smiled awkwardly and changed the subject while working finally accepted him completely. Kiriel unconsciously broke into a wide smile and stood up. He swallowed and slipped the ring onto her ring finger.
Kana deliberately asked playfully while watching his slightly trembling hands.
“Kiriel, why are your hands shaking?”
“I’m too happy and nervous.”
Kiriel openly showed the appearance of someone overwhelmed and at a loss. Kana gently patted his back and whispered kindly.
“You handled it well without much nervousness when we were set as husband and wife.”
“That situation and now are different. That was another world, and this is our world. It’s the difference between playing pretend and reality, you could say.”
“Ah.”
Kana smiled faintly. It was something they could say after safely completing their mission and settling in this world.
Kiriel played with her hand before asking with a soft eye-smile.
“Can I hug you?”
“I gladly permit it.”
Kana generously spread both arms. Kiriel immediately pulled her into a tight embrace.
She closed her eyes in his warm, broad arms before tracing circles on his back with her fingertips.
“Kiriel really, you were just hugging me earlier but you want to hug again?”
“Of course. I’d like to stay like this forever if I could.”
His voice, elated as if walking on clouds, held sincerity. Kana laughed softly at his immediate response and said,
“We’ll have plenty of time for that in the future.”
“Yeah, just imagining it makes me happy.”
A softened Kiriel grinned.
Only after hugging for a long while and releasing the embrace did Kana notice the room’s scenery. She opened her eyes wide looking at the magnificent sight.
“Ah, the roses in the room……”
“Don’t worry about traces remaining in the room since they’re made of mana.”
Kiriel shrugged nonchalantly. It was confidence typical of him.
Though made of mana, they were vivid and beautiful. She admired the diverse mana roses while taking them in.
“I couldn’t see earlier because I was distracted, but this is really amazing. Your abilities are truly extraordinary.”
“You flatter me.”
Kiriel grinned. Though it was purely for show with low utility, if she was satisfied then it more than served its purpose.
After Kana finished appreciating the roses made of mana, Kiriel snapped his fingers and the room instantly returned to normal. She smiled with satisfaction.
Time passed pleasantly and dawn was approaching with its dim light. Kana raised her hand with a troubled smile.
“Kiriel, it’s about time……”
“Yeah, I should go. I’ll submit the marriage proposal today…… no, later today, so please check it.”
“Yes, I’ll wait.”
Kana waved at his determined appearance. Kiriel chuckled softly, lightly kissed her forehead, and suddenly disappeared using teleportation magic.
While she savored the lingering feeling with a hand on her chest, the spirits’ voices reached her mind.
[Kana, congratulations.]
[Congratulations!]
‘Thank you all. Come to think of it, I wasn’t able to properly pay attention to you.’
Kana scratched the back of her head and smiled awkwardly. The spirits who had watched everything from start to finish graciously let it pass.
[It’s okay, we understand.]
[That’s right. We waited quietly because we didn’t want to break the mood.]
‘You’re all so kind.’
Kana hugged the spirits and smiled brightly.
From now on, she could stay here together with the spirits, her precious friends, and Kiriel.
The two who started as a supporting character and sub male lead became protagonists of their own lives and promised eternity together.
