It was a clear answer. Bellota immediately turned to look at Seiden, then with a determined face, stuck close to his side. Then she slipped her arm between his thick arms and intimately linked arms with him.
“Yes, he’s my husband.”
At those words he thought he would never hear in this life, Seiden’s heart, standing defenseless, dropped.
Without showing any sign of being flustered, Bellota looked at Seiden with a skilled face and asked.
“Right, honey?”
Seiden’s head spun at that form of address that would now be suspicious to no one. When Seiden didn’t answer right away, Bellota gently pinched his thick arm to give him a hint.
Seiden soon swallowed the dizziness that made his lips dry and skillfully answered.
“Yes, she is my wife.”
At Seiden’s answer, Mrs. Susan’s wariness and curiosity completely dissolved.
“Oh my goodness! Not just a granddaughter but even a grandson-in-law! Mrs. Pamela will be so happy!”
Mrs. Susan looked fondly at the young couple, feeling proud herself.
Bellota stuck even closer to Seiden to prevent Mrs. Susan’s suspicion from ever emerging again, and while warmly holding his arm, asked.
“Is our grandmother inside?”
“Ah, yes. She just finished her meal. Come this way.”
Mrs. Susan, having dropped all suspicion, guided them in a much friendlier voice.
As Bellota started walking while still holding Seiden’s arm, the stiff Seiden also dazedly took steps.
Seiden glanced down at Bellota. Feeling his gaze, Bellota also glanced up at him and winked one eye. She looked subtly excited that their reckless plan had succeeded.
An excited Bellota. Seeing that precious sight, Seiden’s neck somehow stiffened. He followed behind Mrs. Susan while walking arm in arm with her. The three people came up to the second floor of the nursing home and headed toward the room located in the sunniest spot.
“Here it is, where Mrs. Pamela stays. Just between us, this is the best room in our nursing home, you know? Gets lots of sun, and you can see the garden right out the window. Oh my, Mrs. Pamela! Come here! Your granddaughter is here! Elise, was it? I’m telling you Elise is here!”
Bellota and Seiden who entered the room stopped briefly at the doorway and saw the back of an elderly woman sitting in a chair by the window looking outside. That elderly woman with graying hair must be Mrs. Pamela.
Mrs. Pamela remained motionless looking out the window despite Mrs. Susan’s calls, only slowly turning her head when the woman’s hand touched her shoulder.
“Granddaughter……?”
“Yes, you know. The granddaughter born to the youngest daughter who married into Selento. You saw her when she was a baby, didn’t you? Before entering the nursing home! That granddaughter has grown up and came to visit you, Pamela! Yes, Elise. She got married recently! Well, ‘recently’ was about 8 years ago, but still. Remember? Oh, she even sent letters a few times during the first few years. And look, her husband came too! Your grandson-in-law is here, Pamela!”
At Mrs. Susan’s detailed explanation, Pamela’s blank gaze slowly shifted to the two people standing at the doorway. When her eyes finally reached Bellota, Bellota’s hands, still wrapped around Seiden’s arm, tightened with tension.
“Do you remember Elise?”
When Mrs. Susan urged anxiously, Pamela, who had been staring intently at Bellota for a while, suddenly stood up from her seat. Supporting herself with a cane in one hand and keeping the other behind her back, she approached Seiden and Bellota one difficult step at a time. Then, stopping in front of the two, she examined their faces carefully.
“Are you two married?”
When Pamela threw out this unexpected question, Mrs. Susan cheerfully answered instead of the flustered Bellota.
“Yes, that’s what I’ve been saying!”
“Hmm.”
Pamela’s eyes narrowed. It was a sharp and sensitive gaze, as if appraising an object. The two could hardly open their mouths under that pressure, only holding their breath and exchanging quick glances. After scrutinizing Bellota and Seiden alternately for a while, she finally opened her mouth as if finished with her assessment.
“You two have incredible s*xual compatibility.”
At those words, a silence fell over the room as if everything had momentarily stopped. Soon after Mrs. Susan let out an interested “Oh my!”, Bellota’s face turned bright red.
“This is quite a rare match. It must be quite a sight when you two are in bed together. The man holds the woman with his entire body and never lets go. My, my, look at how strong he is. It must be quite something.”
Pamela’s gaze, which had been scanning Seiden up and down, moved to between his legs.
“There’s quite a dangerous thing residing there. My, that’s quite monstrous.”
Pamela clicked her tongue but smiled contentedly as if looking at a well-grown pumpkin.
Seiden showed no sign of embarrassment at such words, merely raising his eyebrows with an indifferent face, as if curious about how the old woman knew such things.
“It must be quite difficult for the woman to take all that. Such a delicate body having to handle such a monstrous thing must be challenging. But don’t worry. A man’s energy is very good for a woman. She needs to receive that energy to breathe properly. Still, only someone like this young lady could handle it; ordinary women couldn’t manage. They’d be done for.”
At such an explicit assessment, Bellota’s face became so red it couldn’t possibly get any redder, to the point where steam might start coming out. In contrast, Seiden continued to show no sign of embarrassment and watched the old woman with interest.
“Oh my, oh my! You’re being improper, Pamela. Hoho, Pamela used to be able to read compatibility and faces in the past. It was amazing, I tell you! Oh my, but how inappropriate to read the compatibility between your granddaughter and grandson-in-law!”
While saying this, Mrs. Susan perked up her ears as if he wanted to hear more about their compatibility, clasping her own hands together.
“Let’s see, not just s*xual compatibility, but overall compatibility is excellent too. This wild stallion of a man becomes docile only before this woman. The man loves the woman more. Isn’t that right?”
When Pamela asked this, Seiden glanced at the frozen Bellota before leisurely confirming.
“It seems that way.”
Shocked by his response, Bellota turned sharply to look at Seiden, but he just shamelessly continued to look only at Pamela.
“But don’t feel bad. Though she doesn’t say it, the woman can’t live without the man either in this match. Let’s see, as for children…… You’ll have one daughter and one son, and live well.”
When the fortune-telling finally reached predictions about children, Bellota truly didn’t know what to do and tightly clasped her hands, while Seiden couldn’t help but imagine a daughter who resembled Bellota. As Seiden was clenching his fist, caught in the rapturous and irreverent fantasy of Bellota and a daughter who looked just like her smiling at him side by side, Mrs. Susan cut in again with a question.
“Come to think of it, do you two not have children yet? It’s been 8 years since you married?”
When curious eyes turned toward Bellota, her face, which was already flushed up to her neck, grew even hotter. Seiden spoke first on behalf of Bellota, who was clearly unable to answer.
“No, we haven’t yet.”
Not yet? Even though she knew it was just an answer to satisfy the lady’s curiosity, Bellota’s mind grew dizzy. Although she had started this pretense of being married herself, Seiden’s attitude was too skilled and shameless.
“Oh my, not yet? You must be worried. But don’t worry. You heard what Pamela just said, right? You’ll have a daughter and a son, and live well.”
Mrs. Susan smiled warmly while looking at Bellota’s stomach as if a child had already been conceived between the two.
Bellota couldn’t stand it anymore and covered her burning cheeks with both hands. Mrs. Susan cackled more gleefully at the sight.
“Oh my, why so shy! You’ve been married for 8 years but still act like newlyweds? I’m sure a beautiful baby will come soon. You know what, Pamela even correctly predicted that my daughter would have two sons! She’s so amazing. It’s really incredible. How can she read compatibility so well just by looking at faces, even when she can’t recognize her own children? Ah, you all know that Pamela once worked as a wet nurse in some count’s household, right? Was it Count Alporia? She became quite famous among the noble ladies for reading compatibility back then too. And rightfully so, right?”
“Count Alkeria’s household.”
When Pamela precisely corrected Mrs. Susan’s words, Bellota and Seiden’s eyes froze in surprise.
“Oh yes, Count Alkeria’s household. She forgets everything else but remembers that. Anyway, chat with your granddaughter and grandson-in-law for a while. I’ll go get some tea.”
Having lost interest now that the compatibility talk seemed to be over, Mrs. Susan left the room without hesitation, leaving the two with Pamela. Finally alone with Pamela, Bellota and Seiden glanced at each other, forgetting even the recent fortune-telling.
