The Villain's Sickly Wife Dislikes Being Overprotected - Chapter 2.7
“Why…… Why did you come back?”
I had confirmed his departure earlier, so why did he return? I still couldn’t fully understand this situation.
“Usually, when you leave, it’s for at least a month. But now, only a few hours have passed.”
I pulled my arm out from under the blanket and pointed at his wristwatch. The implication was that someone so meticulous about time management shouldn’t be like this.
Kyron’s gaze fixed on my index finger pointing at his wrist. His expression wasn’t particularly bright. No, it was rather menacing.
Was this finger too impertinent?
“Your tone sounds displeased.”
He raised one hand and reached for my finger which was still pointing at him.
Gasp, is he going to crush this finger because it’s bothering him? Like that window frame?
I flinched my finger, but it seemed too late. He was just about to grab my hand.
I can’t even run away here.
But he didn’t grab me roughly. Instead, Kyron gently took my hand. It was with such a weak force that it was barely perceptible.
He awkwardly put the hand he held back under the blanket. It was a very clumsy and strange motion as if he might break it if he held it wrong.
“You said you were cold.”
I was both relieved and surprised that the dreaded situation didn’t occur.
“Keep your arms properly covered too.”
Says the one with the coldest voice and gaze of all. If I feel cold, it would be because of your chilly voice.
Considering his background, a warm voice and gaze would have been more out of place, though.
“When I left this morning, it wasn’t to depart, but to bring a doctor. I was planning to leave in the afternoon after bringing the doctor.”
“What? A doctor?”
Do you mean that was your intention from the start?
“The doctor from the Imperial Hospital you saw earlier. Since he’s from the Imperial Hospital, the procedures are complicated, so it was better for me to go directly to bring him quickly. But on my way back, I heard you were here, so I came here.”
“What about the other doctor who came before?”
I know there was a doctor who conducted various tests while I was unconscious.
“He was an incompetent person who couldn’t even find the cause of your illness.”
“……”
I don’t think it’s just because of incompetence. Even in my previous life, they couldn’t find the cause of my illness despite using all sorts of advanced equipment.
But Kyron seems to believe that the doctor lacked skill. He added with dissatisfaction, ‘Just because they have a license doesn’t mean you can trust them all.’
“But why couldn’t you wait during the short time I was out, and came all the way here?”
He asked, as if interrogating me.
Why do I feel like a student caught by a teacher while trying to sneak out? I just had lunch at a restaurant, that’s all.
“You haven’t fully recovered yet.”
“The chef is still traumatized from yesterday’s incident and can’t even enter the kitchen. How could I eat at home?”
“I should have a word with the chef to pull himself together.”
It’s because of you that he’s traumatized, you know? I was dumbfounded by him only saying things that would worsen the situation.
“I should also discipline the servants who let a sick patient come all the way here without stopping them.”
“What?”
“Maybe I’ve been away from home for too long. The servants seem to have become too lax.”
What are you talking about?
“I should stay in the capital a bit longer without leaving for a while.”
“What did you say?”
The servants will only feel uncomfortable if you’re around!
Forgetting his earlier instruction to keep myself well-covered, I pulled out my hand and grabbed him. It was to persuade him somehow.
“You’ve already called the Imperial Hospital doctor, right? I’ll be fine now, so something like today won’t happen again. The doctor will give me medicine!”
I desperately held his hand with both of mine.
“The servants might feel uncomfortable if you’re around too. They’re all scared because of yesterday’s incident.”
But my persuasion didn’t work.
“If they’re scared, it’s easier to handle them, so that’s a good thing.”
That’s not right, you fool!
“And it’s not the servants’ fault that I came here! They tried to stop me!”
But my persuasion didn’t reach him.
“Ah, isn’t there a banquet coming up soon? It’s been a while since I attended one.”
“What?”
“His Majesty the Emperor would be pleased if I showed my face after such a long time.”
So, he’s saying he’ll attend the banquet too?
“The banquet is still days away!”
“So? Is there a problem?”
I was simply at a loss for words.
While I was blankly repeating Kyron’s unbelievable words in my head, the doctor proceeded with the examination.
“Please give me both your hands for a moment.”
The examination in this world was different from the hospitals in my previous life.
The doctor had me place both hands on a device that looked like a stone. It seemed to be an examination equipment that used magic.
As the examination progressed, Kyron’s voice kept replaying in my head.
“I should stay in the capital a bit longer without leaving for a while.”
What about the things he needs to do? Isn’t it his role to struggle desperately to kill the sub-male lead as soon as possible?
So now we have to stay together until the banquet?
Meanwhile, various colors of light began to swirl around the examination equipment.
“Hmm……”
The doctor’s expression as he looked down at the equipment was ambiguous.
“Let’s try another test.”
The doctor put away the stone-like equipment and this time took out a bottle filled with a swirling liquid.
“I’m going to draw some blood now. Is that alright?”
“Yes.”
“It will sting a little.”
The doctor took my hand and pricked the tip of my finger with a sharp tool. A drop of blood formed a round bead at the fingertip. The doctor brought my finger to the bottle and let the blood drop into the liquid.
“Hmm……”
That sound has been coming from the doctor’s mouth continuously.
“What is it? How are the results?”
I finally couldn’t hold back and asked first.
“Well…… Let’s do one more test.”
See? I knew this would happen.
Even in my previous life, no doctor could find the cause of this illness. It wouldn’t be any different here.
“Still nothing coming up?”
Kyron, who had been glaring at the examination process with his arms crossed the whole time, finally spoke.
“Well, that is…… Yes, all test results are still coming back normal.”
The doctor, looking perplexed, avoided Kyron’s eyes before finally answering.
He’s scared of him too, isn’t he?
Kyron seemed irritated that the test results weren’t coming out quickly, but fortunately, he gestured with his chin for the doctor to proceed with the next test.
The doctor took out another piece of equipment. In the process, I caught his fingertips trembling slightly. Perhaps this is the first patient like this in his medical career.
“This will be the last test. Don’t worry too much, Madam.”
“I’m not worried. I’m fine.”
I’ve been used to this since my previous life.
Unlike Kyron with his hardened expression, I was calm.
The doctor placed a long rod in my hand. As he channeled magic into the rod, that magic was transmitted to my body. A few seconds passed with a feeling like electricity flowing through me.
“Hmm…… Well, that’s all the tests done. Thank you for your patience, Madam.”
The doctor put away the testing equipment.
“And the results?”
Kyron was still standing in the same spot with his arms crossed, watching the doctor. His eyes, demanding an explanation, were fixed heavily on the doctor.
“We’ve conducted all the detailed tests that we can do at present. However……”
The doctor hesitated. I could roughly guess what was coming next.
“There doesn’t seem to be anything that appears to be the cause of the illness. All results are normal.”
As expected.
The doctor was even sweating cold sweat while explaining. I could feel his bewilderment and apologetic state of mind.
“She’s been coughing up blood and even fainted a few times, yet you say it’s normal? Does that make any sense?”
“With current medical knowledge, there doesn’t seem to be anything we can identify. I’m sorry, Your Grace.”
If he’s apologizing while Kyron is glaring at him like that with both eyes wide open, it means he couldn’t find anything.
“However, I will prescribe medication that can be administered during coughing fits or when coughing up blood. I’ll also provide a magic kit that can determine if it’s an emergency situation when the Madam faints. Lastly, I’ll give you medicine that can temporarily prevent coughing and hemoptysis in important situations, but it must not be overused.”
Even though he said he would provide medicine and a kit, Kyron’s gaze toward the doctor who couldn’t find the cause remained hard.
