“Rachel! What’s going on? An attack?”
A full day had passed since the hunting competition ended in disarray.
Viola and Edward came to visit Rachel’s room, where she had been resting all day due to the concerns of Count and Countess Pluret.
“Are you alright?” Edward carefully asked Rachel.
“Are you badly hurt?” Viola followed, examining Rachel up and down. Though she appeared fine on the outside, one could never be too sure.
Rachel slowly shook her head.
“Not at all. I did roll down a slope, but I healed myself with magic right away.”
“You rolled down a slope?”
Viola’s eyes widened in shock at the fact that Rachel could have been seriously injured, rather than focusing on her healing with magic. Tears slowly began to well up in Viola’s large, rabbit-like eyes.
Rachel frantically waved her hands, worried that Viola might start crying.
“No, it happened because Tervan made a mistake. It wasn’t a big deal, so don’t worry about it.”
“Tervan?”
Viola became even more confused after hearing Rachel’s explanation. Knowing only that Crown Prince Ryan and Rachel had been attacked at the hunting grounds, she was surprised to hear Tervan mentioned, as she hadn’t expected him to be with Rachel.
Her lips trembled slightly, clearly showing she didn’t understand how the situation had unfolded.
“Um, how? Was Tervan there too?”
“Yes. Somehow Tervan was headed in the same direction as us. And when the attack happened, Tervan rushed in to protect me and ended up rolling down the slope.”
“…I see.”
As Rachel calmly explained, Viola nodded in understanding.
“So you really did roll down a slope?”
“Yes, that part is true.”
“Even if you healed yourself with magic, how painful must it have been?”
Viola muttered softly toward Rachel with a gloomy expression.
“You say you’re fine, but still…”
“It’s nothing. You tend not to take care of yourself. You’re kind, but you need to value your body more. Even now, you’re treating this when it’s not a trivial matter.”
Viola sincerely expressed her concern for Rachel, pointing out her carelessness.
It was something Creon often pointed out as well.
“Don’t just say it’s nothing; value yourself a little more.”
Rachel couldn’t argue with Viola’s words.
It was true that she hadn’t been taking care of herself all this time.
That’s why she was dismissing what had happened to her during this attack as nothing significant.
To Rachel, it seemed natural.
What she had experienced until now was far worse than this.
It couldn’t even be compared to simply rolling down a slope.
So she couldn’t help but consider this incident trivial.
But it seemed others didn’t see it that way at all.
Rachel was about to tell Viola that she was really fine, but instead agreed with her words.
“Okay. I’ll do that.”
“Of course you should. If you need anything, just let me know. I’m sure your family is taking good care of you, but if there’s anything I can do for you, I will.”
“Alright. But I don’t need anything right now.”
“Really? What should I do then? Should I stay by your side?”
Rachel chuckled as Viola showed eagerness to nurse her.
“No, you don’t have to go that far. I have Catrin, after all.”
Only after hearing Rachel’s words did Viola nod in agreement.
“Well, tell me if you need anything.”
Just as Rachel was about to nod, there was a knock at the door.
Rachel looked at the door with a puzzled expression, wondering who else might be visiting.
“Miss, Young Master Sanchez is here.”
It was Tervan.
“Tervan?”
Just as Rachel was about to say he could come in, Viola looked at her with an expression of shock.
“Will… will that be okay?”
Rachel tilted her head at Viola’s noticeably flustered appearance.
“Why?”
“Well, I mean… things must be awkward between you and Tervan right now.”
Rachel realized what Viola was worried about.
Until just a few days ago, Rachel and Tervan had been on extremely uncomfortable terms.
Tervan had not reciprocated Rachel’s long-held feelings, and Rachel no longer had feelings for Tervan.
Knowing the pain Rachel must have endured during that time, Viola was deeply considering whether she should take Tervan away.
Rachel looked at the troubled Viola and silently smiled. Then she spoke toward the door.
“Tell him to come in.”
“Rachel…!”
When Rachel gave permission, Viola drew in a sharp breath.
Viola seemed more unable to bear the two meeting than Rachel herself, the person directly involved.
It was inevitable after all the tactless actions she had taken over time.
Rachel spoke as she confirmed the door opening.
“It’s fine. You don’t need to worry so much.”
“Huh? No need to worry?”
Viola repeated Rachel’s words blankly, not understanding.
Meanwhile, Tervan slowly walked into the bedroom.
“I’m here, Rachel.”
“Yes. Welcome.”
After exchanging greetings, Tervan noticed Viola and Edward.
“Viola and Edward are here too?”
“They came to visit me. Are you here to visit too?”
When Rachel asked Tervan, he nodded. Then he held out the bouquet he had brought.
“This is a get-well gift.”
Rachel took the bouquet and briefly smelled its fragrance. The sweet scent of lilies spread thickly throughout the room.
Lilies were flowers that Rachel particularly loved.
“Thank you, Tervan.”
After speaking briefly, Rachel handed the bouquet to Catrin.
“By the way, Tervan, are you okay? You were hurt too.”
Recalling what happened at the hunting competition, Rachel asked Tervan. Tervan shrugged his shoulders to indicate he was fine.
“You healed me. I’m perfectly fine.”
“Well, the same goes for me…”
Rachel muttered softly and smiled silently.
It seemed a bit amusing that while they had both rolled down the hillside and been injured at the same time, Tervan was walking around perfectly fine while she was confined to bed.
She thought people around her were being overprotective, but she didn’t dislike it.
“I’ve been trained with the sword from the beginning. I’m used to getting injured. But you’re not. Even if you healed yourself with magic, you must have been shocked, so it’s better for you to rest a bit more.”
Tervan comforted Rachel in a different way than Viola had.
Rachel nodded in agreement with his words.
Only then did she belatedly turn her gaze to Viola.
Viola was covering her open mouth with her hand, looking back and forth between Rachel and Tervan.
She looked like she had a lot to say.
As Rachel quietly observed Viola, Tervan also turned to look at her.
Viola finally managed to close her gaping mouth and spoke.
“What… what happened between you two?”
“Us? What about us?”
Tervan pretended not to know and asked Viola back.
“No, you two were definitely… just a few days ago…”
Viola mumbled, unable to finish her sentence.
Rachel understood what she meant and carefully spoke.
“We… reconciled.”
Even as she said it herself, Rachel wasn’t sure if “reconciliation” was the right word.
More precisely, Tervan had unilaterally apologized to Rachel, and Rachel had accepted his apology because she was tired of arguing with him further.
If it had ended there, they would have maintained the same stiff relationship as before. But thanks to Tervan’s promise during the recent hunting competition to work toward restoring their relationship to what it had been before, Rachel too was trying to make their relationship appear as it had been previously.
Regardless of the reality, from the outside, the relationship between Tervan and Rachel would appear to have improved considerably.
Since explaining all this would make for a long story, Rachel summarized it simply as “we reconciled.”
Viola blinked several times, looking back and forth between Tervan and Rachel, then finally relaxed her expression seemingly relieved.
“I see. That’s a relief. I didn’t know and… I was so worried.”
Viola muttered in a small voice that was almost a whisper. Her voice, tinged with moisture, continued before she bowed her head deeply.
“I’m so glad. You both seem fine.”
“Viola, come here.”
When Rachel beckoned to Viola, she hesitantly sat down next to Rachel. Rachel quietly embraced her and gently patted her back.
“Were you very worried?”
Viola nodded at Rachel’s soft voice.
“How can you even ask? You’re my best friends, of course I was worried.”
Rachel smiled faintly at Viola’s words as she sniffled.
“It’s okay. So you don’t need to worry anymore.”
