Epilogue
A few days earlier, at the Holy Knight Order.
“Declan Garnet. What are you doing?”
A senior Holy Knight glanced over Declan’s shoulder at the report he was reading.
“A cursed object found in the south? Two people died?”
“Yes.”
He scanned the report quickly.
The first person to report it was a retired Holy Knight, now living peacefully in the south. He’d stumbled upon the situation and, suspecting a witch’s trap, sent a report. Declan, reading it, agreed with that assessment.
So, the Holy Knight had to go with a mage to the south, safely retrieve the cursed object, and bring it to the temple for destruction.
‘If I get assigned to this, I’ll go with Sara.’
He and Sara were forcibly paired by the upper ranks, fanatics of the goddess of love, Matilda. Declan frowned in thought.
Having slept with his wife delayed the curse’s onset…
Suddenly, a good idea came to him.
“I’ll take this assignment.”
“Hm? The south, even by portal? You hate leaving the north. You never travel, even on your days off.”
Declan had already bought a mansion in the scenic north. When they were children, Sara had declared she hated the hot south and would live in the north. He still hadn’t given up the dream of living together someday.
If things didn’t go as he hoped and Sara left him cursed, he’d die for sure. But it was worth risking everything.
‘Unless it’s this extreme, Sara will never come over to my side.’
At this point, he wondered if the witch was helping him. Declan clenched his fist and bowed to the senior knight.
“I know there’s a senior in charge of the south, but please assign me this time.”
“…Alright.”
He was a capable junior, and since everyone knew about his long-unrequited love, his colleagues were sympathetic. The senior knight stroked his chin, eyes twinkling.
‘Looks like he’s finally made up his mind.’
He decided to help his junior, even gifting him an advanced magical device that wouldn’t open until a certain time had passed.
Declan used it to block the chamber door and finally ended his long one-sided love.
Two months later, Sara Prodil and Declan Garnet held a lavish wedding that caused a stir in the capital. The prophecy of the goddess of love, Matilda, was fulfilled once again.
