‘Wow, it really looks like a museum.’
I had heard that families with long histories carefully preserved dresses and jewelry to pass them down through generations, but this was the first time I had seen it in person.
While I was simply amazed, Yuri examined the dresses with sharp, hawk-like eyes and then decisively picked one out.
“This one looks good.”
“What? This one?”
I had assumed that I, as the bride, would choose, so the atelier owner looked a bit flustered when Yuri made the decision. Of course, I wasn’t bothered at all.
‘We had agreed to choose each other’s outfits.’
Besides, Yuri’s aesthetic sense had proven reliable during our last date.
The dress Yuri selected was a strapless tube-top style, with the top edge, skirt lace hem, and waist ribbon in a soft pink, giving it a romantic feel.
‘The layered skirt looks just like flower petals.’
The long silk skirt was overlaid with a mesh fabric skirt, reminiscent of spring flowers.
I had been worried that most of the displayed dresses were too heavy and elegant for the wedding concept I had in mind, but Yuri had come through again.
“I like it too.”
At my response, the atelier owner sighed in relief and quickly began explaining the dress.
“This is the dress Princess Katrina of Aragon wore when she got married 60 years ago. She was sixteen at the time.”
I imagined how carefully she must have chosen her dress at such a young age, marrying into a foreign country.
Knowing the story behind it made me like the dress even more.
Yuri smiled and suggested, “Try it on, Titi.”
Even though it was a cute design, it was a wedding dress chosen by a princess, so it was quite elaborate. It wasn’t a dress you could slip into quickly.
I went inside with the atelier owner and received help from others to change.
Despite its light appearance, the dress had a full, wide skirt that made it heavy.
‘I wonder if it suits me.’
It was harder because it was my dress. I kept checking my reflection in the mirror, unsure, when the atelier owner spoke with confidence.
“It suits you perfectly, Bride!”
“Really?”
Her words gave me courage.
As I nodded, the curtain slowly opened. Yuri stood on the other side.
“How is it? Does it look okay?”
I asked shyly, and Yuri, who had been tensing his jaw, suddenly strode over to me.
‘What’s going on?’
As I blinked in confusion, he came closer,
Smooch!
Was something wrong?
He abruptly held my shoulders and kissed me.
The owner exclaimed, “Oh my!” and stepped back. Embarrassed, I tugged at Yuri’s sleeve.
“Yuri!”
“You look so beautiful. It’s a shame to show you to anyone else; do we really have to have a wedding?”
“What are you talking about?”
I laughed, telling him not to joke, and Yuri kissed my forehead again, whispering.
“I’m serious. You’re so beautiful, Titi, I want to hide you away and keep you all to myself.”
His compliment made my cheeks flush red.
‘He’s really good at saying things that make me blush.’
Looking into his sparkling blue eyes made my heart race.
‘Come to think of it, Yuri has always spoken honestly.’
In contrast, I felt like I hadn’t expressed my feelings much.
Maybe I should be a bit more open with my feelings from now on? After all, we were about to get married.
After hesitating for a moment, I whispered in his ear.
“…You look handsome too.”
Yuri’s eyes widened. That alone was incredibly embarrassing, but I mustered the courage to add another comment.
“I can’t wait to pick out your outfit too.”
“I’d rather stay home with you, just the two of us.”
“No way. I want to surprise you and kiss you too.”
After seeming to weigh something in his mind, Yuri nodded obediently and stepped back. Then he clapped his hands lightly and said,
“Then let’s quickly decide how to alter it and move on, shall we?”
“Alter it?”
“Wasn’t it just a matter of adjusting the size and wearing it as is?”
When I tilted my head in confusion, Yuri shrugged.
“It’s already pretty, but I think it would suit Titi even better with a few alterations. Let’s see.”
Yuri narrowed his eyes and circled around me, inspecting the dress. I could sense the owner getting nervous at his meticulous approach.
After a thorough examination, he spoke firmly.
“Let’s cut the inner skirt by one layer to match the length of the mesh.”
“What? Are you suggesting we turn it into a mini dress?”
Yuri nodded silently. The owner’s eyes widened at the bold request, and I was just as surprised.
“I’ve never seen a bride wear a short dress at a wedding. Is it okay?”
“If we set the concept as an early summer picnic, wouldn’t a short dress be more fitting?”
“Still…”
Unlike my hesitation, Yuri was full of confidence.
“And short suits Titi better. Titi is cute, after all.”
“Cute…”
At Yuri’s compliment, the people around us looked dazed. I blushed and gave him a gentle push on the back.
“Alright, alright, let’s try altering it as Yuri suggested.”
“What? Oh, okay!”
Cutting a dress that had been preserved so cleanly for so long wasn’t something to be done lightly. First, we pinned the areas to be cut and marked the appropriate length. Once pinned, it didn’t seem awkward, just as Yuri had said.
The owner gave me a determined look.
“Then, I’ll cut it.”
I nodded to reassure her. The large scissors snipped along the marked lines, cutting the fabric.
‘Wow, look at it slide down so smoothly.’
The high-quality silk fell like water flowing as soon as the scissors touched it.
After carefully finishing the cutting, the owner tidied the hem and stepped back. I immediately looked in the mirror.
The dress, now refreshed by the owner’s touch, still exudes its unique, lovely charm.
The owner exclaimed with sparkling eyes.
“When you first asked to cut the hem, I wondered what you were thinking… but it was an excellent decision. I think it looks even prettier now than when it was long.”
It was pretty, but the shortness felt unfamiliar and left me feeling exposed.
I anxiously asked Yuri, “Isn’t it too short?”
Feeling a bit bare with my calves exposed, I tapped my toes, and Yuri answered firmly.
“No, this lively look suits Titi perfectly.”
“R-really?”
It seemed like you were the only one in the world who would say that to me.
‘The more I look at it, the more it seems okay.’
As I kept looking in the mirror and moving around, Yuri gave a mischievous smile.
“You look like you don’t believe me. Should I explain in detail which parts are pretty? I could go on for an hour.”
“Please spare me.”
I genuinely stopped him, fearing Yuri would actually spend an hour saying embarrassing things.
After tidying up the hem, we decided to add light pink lace.
The atelier owner busily pinned and took notes on the alterations while asking,
“Have you decided on the flowers for the bouquet? Let us know, and we’ll make a matching corsage.”
“Pink tulips.”
“Oh my, I’ve heard that getting tulips these days is like reaching for the stars. And pink tulips, no less—how lovely.”
I smiled shyly.
While I chatted with her, Yuri remained in his meticulous client mode. He sharply examined even the smallest decorations, giving the owner endless instructions.
“Do you have any other shoes? I’d like something a bit more glamorous than these.”
“Just a moment. I’ll bring them.”
“While you’re at it, bring veils in all lengths. I’ll decide after trying them on.”
At his words, the owner hurriedly led her assistants inside.
If someone who didn’t know him saw this, they might think his profession was a designer, the way he spoke so fluidly.
I squinted suspiciously and asked,
“Yuri, is your hobby playing with dolls?”
I couldn’t understand how else he could give directions so effortlessly.
I had meant it half-jokingly, but Yuri tilted his head innocently and asked back,
“Why? Do you think our child will be a daughter?”
“What?”
My mind froze for a moment. I stood there, stiff as a rock, before finally understanding his words and shouting.
“What are you talking about all of a sudden! You scared me.”
“Hahaha.”
What a child!
‘He’s so cheeky at times like this.’
I tried to tease Yuri, but I ended up being the one flustered.
My face burned, and as I fanned myself with my hands, Yuri chuckled and tucked my fallen hair behind my ear.
“If it’s a daughter, I’d happily take up doll-playing as a hobby. Of course, not right now. For the next few years, I want to leisurely have Titi all to myself.”
