Runaway Secretary - Chapter 39
CHAPTER 39
It was Mrs. Kang who filled Taeheon’s emotional void. Even his parents had given up on him, but Mrs. Kang was the only one who believed in him till the end.
[My Taeheon, even though he may speak like that, he has a deep heart. I know him well.]
[It’s because he has a strong sense of responsibility. He’s much better than you. Setting narrow standards and ruthlessly criticizing him just because he doesn’t conform, is that what it means to be an adult?]
Taeheon had been saved by Mrs. Kang countless times, and he had no intention of ignoring that fact. She was the only person he shared his admiration with, so he was unwilling to forgive Director Woo’s despicable behavior.
He had thought of resolving it someday, but with all the fuss, it might as well be done now.
“I won’t beat around the bush. Please stop showing interest in grandmother’s inheritance.”
“Do you seriously think I’m after my mother’s inheritance?”
“Father knows about it. You’re not just going to let it go, are you? You’re just waiting for the right time.”
“Taeheon, you’ve got it all wrong. It’s all a misunderstanding. Why on earth would I covet my mother’s inheritance?”
His attempts to deflect were as amateurish as a third-rate actor. It wasn’t Taeheon’s job to indulge in this.
“I’m dating Ms. Han Yeonseo.”
“What?”
“We’re thinking about getting married.”
Director Woo’s mouth hung open in shock.
“You put her up in front of everyone and said she was Seungbin’s fiancée.”
Taeheon tilted his head slightly and locked eyes with him.
“What the hell are you talking about, Yeonseo, that girl and Seungbin are partners.”
“Seungbin probably just said that. He thought that if he hangs out with Yeonseo, maybe something good will come of it, so he asked you for some cooperation.”
“Taeheon.”
“It’s obvious, isn’t it?”
“Han Yeonseo, that girl, turned out to be so cunning!”
Bang. He slammed the table.
Oh, he’s going to pin this on Yeonseo?
Director Woo was as shameless as ever, he was the man responsible for investigating the list of people Mrs. Kang was seeing and bringing down several of their businesses.
Isn’t it enough that he’s using Yeonseo?
Taeheon sneered.
“She caused a rift between you and Seungbin. Taeheon, don’t you see?”
“Go ahead.”
Taeheon crossed his arms.
“You’re being like that for one woman. You’re not normal!”
Resentment was evident in Director Woo’s bloodshot white eyes. His arms folded inward, he didn’t say anything about his son’s stupidity.
“So what was I supposed to do?”
“It’s a sign, Taeheon, you’re mentally ill.”
This is how the Woo family treats Taeheon.
They said Taeheon had no humanity because he never failed, that he was ruthless when it came to neatness, and that he had no heart when he acted rationally.
The wretched losers spent their lives jealous of and putting down Taeheon, who was born with the genes for success.
It was ridiculous. Taeheon hadn’t done anything to them.
“If I’m mentally ill, what makes of Seungbin? A criminal? Trash? A thug?”
Taeheon’s sneer made Director Woo startled.
“W-what?”
“Let’s not make a fuss. It would be peaceful if you just shut up.”
Taeheon took out his phone and placed it on the table. The screen lit up along with murmurs, displaying a video of Director Woo and his henchmen quarreling.
“You remember, don’t you? The conversation you had with Director Kim a week ago.”
Director Woo’s face changed as Director Kim of DH Electronics voice crackled through the phone.
Taeheon lowered his head at an angle. As the video played loudly, Director Woo took off his glasses to wipe his flushed face.
With trembling hands, Director Woo gulped down his drink in one go, looking like a cornered rat without a way out.
“W-where did you get this…?”
Upon returning home, Taeheon immediately began investigating Director Woo’s affairs. The inheritance Director Woo was hoping to gain by falsifying the results of Mrs. Kang’s medical examination wasn’t really the most important part.
However, for Director Woo, who had been overshadowed by his younger brother all his life and was now in dire straits, he might be eager to seize whatever remained.
Among his targets was the stake in Raon Planning. Director Woo knew that Mrs. Kang, as the majority shareholder of DH Electronics and Raon Planning, was pushing for a merger.
Upon Mrs. Kang’s death, a natural transfer of shares would occur, and Director Woo had plans to merge accordingly. To maximize his gains in the process, Director Woo moved stealthily.
Taeheon had caught onto this, and brought up the video to use as bait to shake him down.
“You’ve been doing fudged accounting, and your lack of call option disclosure is enough to get the prosecutors involved.”
“……What?”
“You manipulated the stock price.”
Taeheon smirked, and Director Woo asked in a despondent voice.
“If this gets out, you think I will be the only one to fall?”
Director Woo seemed to suggest that Taeheon should give it a try. Almost as if he had anticipated this, Taeheon pressed the play button for the next video.
– Ugh! Please, please spare me.
The familiar voice made Director Woo look up from the video and jump to his feet.
Clash. He didn’t even realize the dishes were falling to the floor.
– Please, spare me. I beg you.
The one crying with a muffled voice was Woo Seungbin. He was almost n*ked and begging Taeheon.
On Seungbin’s face, as he begged for the violence to stop, there was no hint of the violent nature of his intentions to intimidate Yeonseo. Seungbin looked weak, as if he had been drained of all his evil.
– Do you see this?
Taeheon tapped his cell phone. Seungbin was nodding his head vigorously with his lips trembling.
– Say it here. What did you do?
– I did it. Yes. I forced Yeonseo to kiss me, and I drugged her to try to r*pe her. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry.
The video was filled with Seungbin’s sobbing, and a vein popped on Director Woo’s hand.
“You, what is this…!”
This will be a harder blow for Director Woo. It’s harder to find a businessman without corruption. It’s just a matter of getting caught or not getting caught.
However, this personal scandal is quite troublesome. If it’s known that Director Woo’s son committed such a heinous crime, it would not only affect public opinion but also lead to legal proceedings.
If Taeheon kept his mouth shut, it could be a long, drawn-out battle. The mere fact that Yeonseo was Taeheon’s lover was enough to warrant a response.
Director Woo ran a hand through his hair and looked around before slumping back into his seat.
Director Woo spoke in a choking voice, as if he had drunk too much gas.
“What do you want?”
“Soon, I’m going to send Seungbin to Southeast Asia. Don’t let him set foot on Korean soil again.”
“…Is that all?”
“I already told you to settle this quietly. Don’t eye DH Electronis anymore and grandmother’s inheritance.”
“What? Then…”
“I’m not idle enough to count the number of side dishes at someone else’s house.”
Taeheon hinted that he would overlook the merger. It was not just a gesture of conceding, but a strong warning.
This incident was not the only one where he clashed with Director Woo. Now that Taeheon had begun to make his mark in Korea, he could have any number of conflicts with Director Woo.
And Director Woo didn’t have the capacity to deal with Taeheon, whose work ethic resembled Lee Hyuk’s.
“Will there be any disadvantage to our future business?”
“You’re trying to save yourself while being in need, aren’t you?”
Director Woo’s company, Raon Planning, was a subsidiary of the Sewon Group, and Sewon Motors was about to launch a new car. It was natural for Raon Planning to take charge of the advertis*ment.
As a major source of income for the group, Director Woo would have planned the advertis*ment with his own team.
But the advertising client was Taeheon, who was the boss.
Raon Planning was the center of an internal power struggle. It wasn’t hard for Taeheon to sabotage everything. He just didn’t want to, but it wasn’t like he couldn’t.
“I will let you handle it.”
“Are you serious?”
“In return, get rid of my marriage candidates.”
Director Woo was preparing to fill Taeheon’s side with his own person. There might be some decent women among them.
But Taeheon didn’t really care about marriage. He didn’t want to get involved in political factions for no reason and become annoyed.
Director Woo shrugged his shoulders. Taeheon stood up from his seat. Director Woo’s silence was enough of an answer.
As he buttoned his suit jacket, Taeheon spoke as if he had just remembered something.
“Oh, and you’ll have to pay for using Ms. Han Yeonseo.”
Looking at the face of the old raccoon who had lost his spirit, Taeheon said.
“Don’t meet her, just apologize over the phone.”
With those words, Taeheon strode out of the restaurant. Secretary Shin who was waiting nearby, followed behind him.
“Are you going into Yongin?”
“I’ll go by myself. You can go home, Secretary Shin.”
Taeheon asked for the car keys, indicating that he would drive himself.
The chauffeur and Secretary Shin awkwardly stepped back. They’re worried about their boss’s safety, but they can’t bring themselves to say anything.
After checking the rearview mirror, Taeheon smoothly drove the car. Now that he was alone, his head felt heavy. It was Yeonseo who filled his thoughts.
He thought holding her would ease the pain, but he was mistaken. It wasn’t just the physical craving that tugged at him, but an indescribable thirst that grew more and more insatiable.
Gripping the steering wheel, Taeheon sped off.
Heading towards Yongin, where Yeonseo was, who was busy taking care of Mrs. Kang’s needs.
Yeonseo was never one to let her body rest, which is why she was so skinny.
How her waist, which was no more than a handful of inches, bent and flexed. How Yeonseo, who had reached her limit in accommodating him, moved her waist to handle him.
That’s why she drove Taeheon crazy, the vivid image playing more vigorously than when he was an adolescent.
He let out a sigh. It felt like he had become a rebellious teenager.
