Olivia looked at him with a burning gaze, more intense than ever before.
“So please, let me take part in that revenge too.”
Even as she said it, Olivia was sure Kaiden would refuse. There was no reason for him to accept her offer.
So she quickly added—
“After causing a scene at the funeral, there’s no way I can live in peace. I’ll be trembling in fear, not knowing when Eric Anderson might come after me.”
But then he said something unexpected.
“Alright.”
“What?”
“But first I have to see if what you said is true. I’ll look into Miss Scarlett Evelyn’s whereabouts and get back to you.”
He then asked Olivia where she lived and Olivia gave him the name of the orphanage where Sarah lived.
When Kaiden opened the window on the side of the carriage and called out the name of the orphanage, the driver turned the carriage in that direction.
Olivia glanced at Kaiden as he put his hat back on, then turned to stare at the wall of the carriage, lost in thought.
“Did I do the right thing?”
Her heart pounded in her chest. She couldn’t tell if confessing everything to Kaiden – and asking him to join her in revenge – had been the right decision or a mistake.
But one thing was for sure.
‘I won’t regret it.’
No matter what happened, she wouldn’t regret her decision.
All she could do was move on.

Upon returning to the mansion, Kaiden immediately gave orders to his aide, Henry.
“Investigate the whereabouts of Eric Anderson and Scarlett Evelyn from three days ago.”
“Yes, understood.”
Just as Henry was about to rush out, Kaiden called him back.
“And look into the woman we met earlier – Sarah.”
“What should I focus on?”
“If she had any connection to Lady Olivia Grosvenor and what she was doing three days ago. As soon as possible.”
“Yes, sir.”
With a bow, Henry left the room.
After Henry left, Kaiden started to think.
The first person that popped into his head was Olivia Grosvenor.
Her platinum hair, reminiscent of a full moon, and those captivating green eyes.
When she smiled, deep dimples formed on both cheeks, and her eyes – framed by thick double eyelids – dropped gently, giving her a soft expression.
That smile that always made his heart ache.
Now, the thought that he would never see it again made him feel like someone was holding his heart so tight that it would burst.
Kaiden clutched the aching left side of his chest.
“Liv…”
But he shed no tears.
In a situation where nothing was certain, he couldn’t allow himself to cry.
And his capable assistant returned with the information he needed in less than a day.
“Sir Eric Anderson and Miss Scarlett Evelyn were together at the Anderson family villa on the day Lady Olivia Grosvenor died. There appears to have been an affair. There are also reports of several earlier visits to the villa…”
Details followed, explaining how long the two had been involved and the nature of their relationship, but none of it registered in Kaiden’s ears.
He could only replay the words of the woman named Sarah over and over in his mind.
—“Eric Anderson killed Lady Olivia Grosvenor yesterday. He strangled her with his own hands. And after that… he likely left her in the forest to be torn apart by wolves.”
Her voice had been calm, but could not hide the anger underneath.
Just then, Henry carefully added.
“And contrary to the claim that Lady Grosvenor went into the woods alone after an argument with Sir Anderson, there is someone who says she saw Sir Anderson carrying her into the woods. Just as this woman, Sarah, has described.”
Kaiden could no longer contain himself. With a trembling fist, he slammed his hand down on the desk.
“How dare he! As if killing her wasn’t enough!”
Now it was certain. Just as Sarah had said, Anderson had killed his fiancée with his own hands and then dumped her body in the woods.
And when the wolves tore her apart, he lied – claiming she had died from a wolf attack.
And yet he had the audacity to show that face at her funeral?
Kaiden clenched both fists so tightly that his knuckles turned white.
He hadn’t been able to approach Olivia… because she looked happy when she was with Eric Anderson.
He had regretted not being able to be by her side, but as long as she was happy, that had been enough for him.
But if he had known things would end like this, he never would’ve let her stay with Eric.
Never…
“My lord?”
Kaiden, who had been on the verge of storming off with a sword to confront Eric, barely regained his composure at the sound of Henry’s voice.
“What about the woman—Sarah?”
“She really was saved by Lady Grosvenor a year ago. And it’s true she went to the Winter Forest a few days ago.”
“I see.”
“But… do you really believe her? That Sir Anderson truly did that to Lady Grosvenor…?”
Kaiden clenched both fists tightly. Henry couldn’t bring himself to finish his sentence and fell silent.
“All the circumstances are unfolding exactly as she said.”
“But…”
Henry seemed about to say more, but closed his mouth and bowed his head.
“Please give your next orders.”
“Prepare a room in the mansion.”
“A room… sir?”
“A guest will be arriving soon.”
Kaiden said nothing more – just that single sentence in a low murmur.
Henry asked no more questions. He simply bowed his head and left the office.
***
It had been three days since Olivia had become Sarah.
Which also meant that it had been three days since she had met Kaiden.
But even though he said he would be in touch soon, there had been no word from Kaiden since then.
‘He should’ve heard from Scarlett by now.’
As Olivia sighed deeply, lost in thought-
“Sarah unni?”
A young girl approached her.
“Yes, Joy? What is it?”
“Someone is here to see you.”
Joy fidgeted as she pointed to the entrance of the orphanage. There was a black carriage, completely unmarked.
‘Kaiden must have sent it.’
Without suspicion, Olivia approached the carriage – but then she sensed something was wrong.
‘A sword?’
The driver who opened the door for her had a sword strapped to his waist.
And it wasn’t just the sword.
His build was far too large and solid for someone who was just a coachman.
And more… Olivia looked to the side. Someone was standing behind a large tree.
They were trying to stay hidden, but the tip of a sword sticking out gave them away.
That’s when Olivia realized – too late.
‘Eric sent them.’
And the moment she stepped into that carriage, she would be taken away and killed.
“Young lady? What are you waiting for?”
At the same time, Olivia turned and ran in the opposite direction of the orphanage.
“Damn it, catch her!”
Men with drawn swords jumped out from behind the trees all around her.
Olivia didn’t get far before she was surrounded by masked men dressed in black.
“Come on, let’s not make this any harder than it has to be. Just get in the carriage.”
The coachman threw a dagger in the air, catching it casually as he swaggered toward her.
‘He promised I’d be safe!’
Olivia bit her lip in frustration.
Just then—
“What the—who the hell are you?!”
A man appeared out of nowhere and began attacking the masked assailants.
Clang, clang, clang.
The sharp sound of clashing swords rang through the air.
Four against one. It was an unfavorable situation, but the man easily dispatched the masked attackers one by one.
“Who sent you?”
He asked, holding his sword to the coachman’s neck.
“I can’t say.”
“Was it Eric Anderson?”
“…!”
The coachman’s eyes flickered for a moment. Soon blood trickled from his mouth – he had ingested poison.
The man clicked his tongue.
