It had been almost a year since Lina and Enril came to Korea.
However, they had not completely escaped the shadows of the past.
Even after spending a satisfying day and falling asleep in Enril’s arms, nightmares inevitably came.
Lina struggled with all her might to escape the hands that bound her limbs and pressed down on her body.
But it was nearly impossible to overcome the brute strength of the men. Moreover, it wasn’t just one person holding her down.
Each hand, each voice, each breath was different, but they were all equally horrifying and repulsive.
As she resisted without giving up, she suddenly managed to break free from their grasp by sheer luck.
But she hadn’t gone far when someone inevitably grabbed her shoulder. Paralyzed by fear, Lina couldn’t even scream properly.
— Lina.
Someone whispered in the darkness. The moment she heard that voice, all strength left her body.
Sensing her loss of will to resist, the hand on her shoulder became noticeably gentler.
Who could it be?
Iscallion? Pinion? Gined?
It didn’t matter who it was; they were all equally terrifying. She closed her eyes, hoping they would let her go quickly, regardless of what they did. She was so accustomed to resignation that it was almost sickening.
However, even after waiting for quite a while, nothing happened.
What new scheme are they planning?
Fear, combined with anxiety, made her body tremble uncontrollably.
Then the man shook her shoulder vigorously.
“Lina!”
Startled by the loud voice, she opened her eyes wide. She saw a pair of eyes glowing sharply even in the darkness.
“Are you okay?”
Enril let go of her shoulder and wiped the sweat off her face.
Only then did Lina realize that the man holding her was Enril. He was the only lifeline that had pulled her out of the abyss.
Breathing heavily, Lina burrowed into his arms. As relief washed over her, tears finally began to flow. Even though it was all over, the memories etched in her mind were hard to forget.
Enril also hugged her tightly without a word. His strong arms wrapped around her torso seemed to promise a safe reality.
“I told you we should kill them all.”
There was no need to ask who Enril was referring to.
“Then you wouldn’t have been safe either.”
Revenge didn’t matter much to her. A world without Enril was more terrifying than any nightmare.
Enril licked away all her tears that wouldn’t stop flowing.
“It’s okay now.”
But as it was, the nightmares would continue indefinitely. Feeling her irregular heartbeat, Lina took a deep breath.
She realized it was time to do something she had postponed for a long time.
Finally making up her mind, she got up.
After returning to Korea, Lina and Enril struggled to find the desolate romance fantasy world she had dimensionally traveled to, and they finally found it. Lina wanted to question the author about why they wrote such content first.
However, even with Enril’s abilities, they couldn’t find the person who wrote the novel. It was truly bizarre.
Anyway, even after finding the novel, she kept putting off reading it.
Although she knew the story would have changed since the heroine was different, she was also afraid that nothing had changed.
‘I can’t avoid it forever.’
Taking a deep breath, Lina turned on the app and started reading the novel from the beginning. Enril sat next to her.
Though neither of them said it, they both hoped that Lou, who was originally a villain, had properly taken revenge. They also expected her to be very grateful to them. But that expectation was shattered within a few pages.
“Hmm, so Lou thought of us like this…”
Lina muttered awkwardly. They were reading the scene where they first met Lou at the beginning of the novel.
Lou’s inner thoughts were vividly described, filled with vulgar curses, saying things like watching them exchange sweet words made her ears rot and that she couldn’t bear to look at them.
“As expected, humans other than you can’t be trusted. How dare they not show any gratitude…”
“Let’s keep reading for now…”
When the gods intervened urgently after the two of them escaped, Enril sneered coldly.
“Hah. Only when they’re in trouble do they…”
“I still feel sorry for making Lou suffer unnecessarily.”
Lina genuinely felt sorry for Lou.
Lou was struggling excessively to win the hearts of the trashy male leads. In the early part of the story, the male leads were so cold to Lou that it made Lina, who was reading, feel embarrassed.
Especially when Lou threw away her dignity as a noble lady to catch Gined’s eye, Lina couldn’t help but sigh. As the original female lead, Lina had naturally won the hearts of all the male leads without much effort, so she assumed Lou would be the same.
“You don’t need to feel guilty about her. If it weren’t for us, that human girl wouldn’t have stayed by the King of the Underworld’s side or become the queen of the underworld.”
“I just hope Lou had a satisfying ending.”
And just as Lina wished, after much hardship, Lou ended up abandoning all three original male leads and chose a new one.
While reading the scene where Lou confirmed her love with Shahar, Lina suddenly reacted in disbelief.
“Lou, who became the Queen of the Underworld, traveled between the earth and the underworld and lived happily with Shahar for a long time…? Huh? Is this the end…?”
She wasn’t dissatisfied with the ending where Lou found love and happiness. The problem was that there was no mention of the other male leads receiving any severe punishment, no matter how hard she looked. Not even Pinion, who had killed Lou.
The most severe consequence was Iscallion losing his memory and being stripped of his grand ducal position, but even then, he wasn’t unhappy.
“Seriously?”
Enril shook his head and flipped through the latter part of the book. But that was really the end. Lou was entirely preoccupied with sticking to Shahar and had no interest in revenge. The two of them were speechless for a while.
“Damn it, isn’t she utterly useless in every way! She was too soft to be put in as the protagonist’s substitute. How could she neglect her grudges because of love!”
Enril finally burst out in anger after a long silence, seemingly forgetting that he had made the same choice.
“But there was no one more suitable than Lou. If this is her decision… we have to understand. We no longer have any authority over that world since we abandoned it.”
Though she said that, Lina was noticeably dejected.
Enril pondered for a moment.
“Wait. I thought of a way to get revenge.”
“How?”
“If I use my power, I can’t change the entire content, but I can add one sentence. I’ll write the punishment you want for them instead of that girl.”
“No. Don’t do that. What if you lose all your remaining power?”
Knowing that Enril’s powers weren’t what they used to be, Lina hurriedly shook her head.
“It doesn’t matter. I’d do anything for you. That’s the reason I live. Besides, you’re not the only one who wants revenge.”
“…”
As Enril stubbornly insisted, Lina reluctantly agreed.
After thinking for a while, Lina whispered the final sentence in Enril’s ear.
Enril unwillingly asked again.
“Is that all?”
“They’re hopeless romantics. There’s no more cruel punishment than this.”
“But this way, it’s no different from Lou Dronay.”
“Imagine, as much as you don’t want to, that you and I couldn’t be together. That alone would be hell, wouldn’t it?”
“You’re right. Just thinking about it is terrible.”
Seeing Enril understand immediately, Lina nodded in satisfaction. Though she didn’t tell him, this was also a kind of revenge against Lou.
One was for forgiving the male leads so easily, and the other was for mocking her affectionate moments with Enril.
She could vividly imagine Lou suffering from the affectionate advances of the three male leads every time she came to the surface.
As Enril closed his eyes and chanted a spell, the sentence Lina had spoken was added to the end of the novel.
『And Pinion, Gined, and Iscallion spent their entire lives yearning for Lou Dronay’s affection, never achieving it, and died old and unfulfilled.』
For the first time, after confirming the completed novel, she felt a lightness as if she could fly. It finally felt like she had completely escaped from that dreadful world.
“It’s really over.”
Lina muttered in a somewhat hollow tone.
Enril carefully observed her expression.
“How do you feel?”
“Sleepy. Sing me a lullaby.”
Enril laid her down on the bed and patted her back.
Listening to his low humming, Lina fell asleep again. And from that day on, she never had nightmares again.
