The Villain's Sickly Wife Dislikes Being Overprotected - Chapter 2.6
I had no intention of attending the banquet in the first place. With Kyron gone, what would I do going there alone? I’d rather come to this restaurant one more time than go to such an event.
Someone might gossip about the Duke and Duchess not attending the banquet. Especially people like those women sitting on this terrace.
I didn’t care either way. Such tiresome social reputations. The food going into my mouth right now and the clothes on my body were far more important issues.
Deciding there was no need to pay attention to the two noble ladies’ conversation, I focused on my meal again.
After having madeleines and tea for dessert, my luxurious meal came to an end.
I decided to take a walk in the hotel’s gallery, partly to aid digestion.
“But… it seems to be getting late…”
“It won’t take long, Lia.”
I appreciated her concern, but I didn’t want to be so cautious that I couldn’t even take a short walk. Still, Lia followed me, worrying.
“If you were to collapse here again like yesterday… we’re not at the Duke’s mansion, so it would be difficult for us to handle…”
Even as I leisurely walked and appreciated the paintings in the gallery, Lia was restless. She seemed to want to persuade me even now.
“His Grace the Duke will be returning soon…”
Wait, what?
I stopped in my tracks at Lia’s words. I doubted my own ears. I thought I just heard something very strange.
“What did you just say, Lia?”
Though unintended, my voice came out low and sharp.
“Lia?”
Lia was visibly flustered. Probably because I failed to control my tone of voice.
After a brief moment of speechlessness, Lia hurriedly opened her mouth.
“I-I said His Grace the Duke will be returning soon, my lady.”
Lia was at a loss, probably wondering if she had made a slip of the tongue.
“…Why is my husband coming back?”
He just left earlier.
The feeling of walking on clouds, thanks to the excellent service and meal at the restaurant, vanished, and I felt as if the ground beneath my feet had given way, dropping me onto a hard floor.
“D-didn’t you know, my lady?”
How could I know if no one told me? When has Kyron ever properly informed me of anything?
“…We need to go back right away.”
I need to see for myself. Whether Kyron is really coming back.
There’s no way that could be true. Lia must have misunderstood. The Kyron I know would never return to the duke’s residence in just half a day.
“Lia, you must be mistaken.”
“I… I hope you’re right, Madam……”
Lia added in a shrunken voice. She was surprised by my unusual reaction.
I should end the gallery tour here. I headed straight for the front of the hotel where the carriage was parked.
That’s when it happened.
“……Cough!”
As I was walking towards the entrance, I reflexively covered my mouth with my arm. A cough burst out uncontrollably.
“Cough!”
Ah, damn it.
Here? Again?
“Cough! Cough!”
It was starting again. I hurriedly covered my mouth and sank to the floor.
“Cough! Cough!”
This damned cough doesn’t subside easily. It won’t let me go until I cough up blood.
“Madam! Madam!”
Lia patted my back in panic. Other attendants and guard knights, sensing something was wrong, quickly rushed to me.
“Are you alright, Madam?!”
“Take Madam to the carriage immediately!”
“Send word right away!”
Some were in chaos, while others moved in an orderly fashion. When I came to my senses, I found myself being carried on the back of a guard knight.
Even in this state, the coughing didn’t stop.
The hotel interior was in an uproar. Even the polite hotel staff were startled by this situation and came running.
“How about taking her to a hotel room for now? We can also call for a nearby doctor!”
I’m not sure how many people rushed towards me. It was even bewildering to experience such a commotion that I’d never experienced in my previous life.
If I could just endure a little longer, it would subside again.
“I’m…… fine……”
I said in a weak voice to the knight carrying me. The knight, who was heading towards a room in the hotel, stopped and focused on my words.
“Pardon? Please say it again, Madam!”
“Cough! In a moment…… I’ll be fine.”
“What are you saying! We cannot just stand by and watch while you’re unwell, Madam!”
Who said it was a terminal illness?
The knight spoke as if I was about to die right then and there. If I could just endure for a moment, I’d get better as if nothing had happened.
“We’ll take you to a hotel room and call for a doctor!”
“No, there’s no need to call a doctor.”
A cold voice cut through the bustling staff.
“I don’t expect much from any doctor you’d call here anyway.”
That deep, indifferent voice.
“Gasp, Your Grace!”
There’s only one person who would be called Your Grace here.
“Take my wife to the room quickly. I’ve already brought a doctor.”
“Yes!”
Even as I heard Kyron’s voice, my coughing didn’t stop.
“Cough, cough……!”
But he said he brought a doctor?
I don’t understand why the person who left has returned, nor how he came to this hotel. And even bringing a doctor.
After arriving at the room, the guard knight carefully laid me down on the bed.
Next to the knight, I could see Kyron who had followed us to the room.
“Cough, cough!”
Even as I continued coughing, Kyron’s cold gaze made me nervous.
“What are you doing? Stop her coughing immediately.”
At his words, the man next to him approached. This must be the doctor Kyron said he brought.
The doctor rolled up my sleeve and immediately injected a syringe. Within a minute of receiving that injection, the coughing subsided.
“As expected of a doctor from the Imperial Hospital.”
Kyron said with satisfaction as he saw my coughing quickly subside.
“I’ve provided urgent treatment for now. I’ll proceed with a detailed examination and prescribe medication based on the results.”
“Understood.”
“I’ll prepare and bring the examination equipment.”
The doctor left, saying he would go get the equipment. With the doctor gone, only Kyron and I remained in the room.
Kyron stared at me intently with his characteristic emotionless eyes. An uncomfortable silence fell between us.
Something seemed to bother him as he suddenly glared at the open window. Then he walked towards it.
He’s probably going to close it.
Crunch.
As he was closing the window, there was a sudden sound of something breaking. The wooden window frame had crumbled in his hand.
“……Damn it.”
He muttered under his breath. It seems this accident happened because he tried to close it too hastily.
Kyron breaking things was a common occurrence even in the original story. It wasn’t intentional, but happened because of his good build and strong power.
Look at those muscles firmly attached to each part of his body.
For someone like him, breaking and replacing things was a daily occurrence.
I know he’s that kind of person…… but why is it so scary when he approaches me with that body?
“The wind will keep coming in.”
Kyron glared at the window as if annoyed and sat down on the empty side of my bed. His presence seemed to fill this spacious room.
“Cover yourself properly with the blanket.”
“Yes.”
Even though I wasn’t particularly cold, I pulled the blanket up to my neck as he said.
Otherwise, he might not let it slide.
