Crazy Match, Crazy Guy - CHAPTER 6 - Part 1
In the end, she moved in with him.
It wasn’t as bad as she had thought it would be.
She liked the simple breakfasts he made and the coffee they shared.
Inhaling the coffee aroma that wafted up, he leaned forward and placed his teacup down.
“So how does it feel to be back at work?”
“It’s good, but it’s also overwhelming.”
“Why is that?”
“Being a team leader seems a little early for me.”
“You’ll do great.”
As expected, Yeom Sang-hoon was fired from the company.
Thankfully, the testimonies of her team members played a role. She couldn’t believe how relieved she was now that everything was finally back on track.
Setting down her empty mug, she stood up. She set it down in the sink and turned to leave, but he stopped her.
“Why…”
“Let me give you a ride in my car.”
“That’s okay, it’s just a quick subway ride.”
“It’s on my way anyway.”
“Ah.”
The distance between Vasell and Geo Homeshopping headquarters was just a 10-minute walk.
Considering that, there was no reason to refuse his offer.
Wooyoung watched him put on his jacket, which he’d left hanging on the chair, then grabbed her own jacket and headed for the elevator to the underground parking garage.
As she climbed into the car and fastened her seatbelt, she spoke up.
“I might be late for a while.”
He started driving without saying a word. Wooyoung glanced at him momentarily.
Why isn’t he responding?
She did feel bad about going home late, but it was unavoidable. She had just become the team leader, so she had to do something to deliver results.
“Why aren’t you responding?”
He looked at her briefly as the car stopped due to red light then returned his gaze to the road ahead.
“I understand your enthusiasm, but working late into the night doesn’t necessarily lead to better results.”
“What do you mean?”
“You’re a smart person, I’m sure you’ll figure it out.”
So, what he’s is saying is that work should be finished within working hours and everyone should leave on time. But in reality, work doesn’t always wrap up neatly within those hours.
“It would be great if work could be done within strict time limits. I really don’t like working overtime too, but…….”
He cut her off as he started the car.
“Let’s make sure we have dinner together.”
“I can’t promise that. Also, what if you have a schedule for a dinner appointment that you can’t decline?”
“During this one month we’re spending together, I won’t make any evening plans.”
With confidence in his words, Wooyoung hesitated for a moment and then nodded.
“I’ll try my best too. Oh, please stop here.”
“You want to get off further down the road?”
“Because if I get off in front of the company, I might bump into someone I recognize.”
“And so?”
“People love talking about others. I’ve been a victim of that too.”
Her quiet work life had been intertwined with Yeom Sang-hoon, and she was once the talk of the town. Although it had been proven that it wasn’t her fault, her face had already become publicly known within the company. She didn’t want to be the subject of gossip any longer.
“Well, if that’s the case.”
As he parked the car by the side of the road, she unbuckled her seatbelt.
“I’ll go now. Thanks for the ride.”
Opening the door and stepping out, she came face to face with a coworker from the same department.
What.
She had deliberately gotten off a bit away from the office to avoid coworkers, but she still ended up meeting someone from work.
Wooyoung waved her hand behind her as a signal for him to leave quickly. But, the car didn’t leave the spot immediately.
Why isn’t he moving?
“Oh, Team Leader!”
“Miss Ga-eun…”
“I’m on my way to work too… Wait, who’s this? Your boyfriend?”
Ga-eun’s eyes locked onto the car behind Wooyoung.
It wasn’t an ordinary car commonly seen on the streets.
So, what the HR manager said was true.
“Oh, no, it’s not like that. Let’s just go.”
Wooyoung glanced behind her as she and Ga-eun walked to work. Only then did the car start moving. As it passed by her side, she let out a relieved sigh.
Thinking that she should be more careful in the future, Wooyoung took the elevator with Ga-eun and went up to the office. The atmosphere in the office, now that Yeom Sang-hoon was gone, felt much more relaxed.
As soon as he would arrive at work, Sang-hoon would order the first employee he sees to get him a coffee delivery, despite having coffee machines and various teas in the office, he still preferred to have coffee brought in from outside, saying he didn’t like the taste of office coffee.
Due to the frequent personal errands he gives to the employees and the excessive number of work-related dinners, there had been an incident last month where an employee who couldn’t stand it resigned and left the company.
Of course, Wooyoung was also very stressed because of Sang-hoon, but she loved what she was doing so she endured it. But now, things have changed, and everything had fallen back into place.
“Hey guys, you’re aware of our upcoming launch for the home shopping brand, right? This time, we’re going for a blind competition. We’ll ignore titles and focus solely on the design. I hope you all participate and give me some good news.”
“Team Leader, will there be a prize or something?”
“Yes, there is, and the details will be posted on the internal bulletin board this afternoon, so everyone should check it out.”
The employees’ lips were practically glued to their ears with anticipation. Observing them, Wooyoung returned to her seat. It had been a long time since she had come to work and her morning coffee tasted so sweet.
While she was looking at the shoes that Vasell had produced for the past five years, her phone, which she had put on vibrate, buzzed on her desk.
The caller was Kim Eun-ho.
As soon as Eun-ho’s name appeared, Wooyoung realized that she hadn’t yet responded to his missed call from the morning.
“Yeah, Eun-ho.”
– Why is it so difficult to talk to you? Do you know how many times I’ve called you already?
“Sorry. I’ve been busy to reach out. But, what’s up?”
– Min-seok said you decided to live together with that guy, but that’s not true, right? You wouldn’t do something like that.
“Well, about that…”
– Is it true? Are you crazy? I told you that guy is gay.
“No, it’s not like that.”
– What?
“That’s not true.”
Wooyoung lowered her voice and looked around cautiously.
– Did Jang Tae Jin say he’s not? You said it’s not true? Are you a fool? Do you believe him? Unless the guy you’re set up with is an idiot, it’s true, okay? Please come to your senses.
Eun-ho’s voice was so furious. Wooyoung couldn’t understand why he was getting so worked up.
“I’m at work now. We can talk later.”
– I’ll come around lunchtime, so be ready.
“Not today, maybe next time.”
– I need to talk about this right away.”
Letting out a sigh, Wooyoung nodded her head.
“Alright, come by before 12.”
After hanging up, Woo Young thought that she would have to meet Eun-ho in person to explain the truth. Convincing Eun-ho, who was as stubborn as steel about his belief that the guy was gay, was only possible by revealing the truth.
After hanging up the phone, Wooyoung realized that she needed to tell Eun-ho the truth in person. The only way to convince Eun-ho, who was as stubborn as steel about his belief that he was gay, was to reveal the truth.
Putting her phone down and refocusing on her work materials, Wooyoung looked up when the staff asked her to go to lunch.
Her neck was stiff. She must have been in the same position for too long. Rubbing her neck, Wooyoung smiled wryly.
“I have an appointment.”
“I see. We’ll go eat then.”
After her coworkers left, Wooyoung also stood up from her seat. Going to the lobby on the first floor to wait for Eun-ho in advance would save time.
She grabbed her wallet and got on the elevator, but before she knew it, Eun-ho was calling her. He said he was in front of the company building.
As she stepped out of the building, Eun-ho appeared. He was dressed in a suit for some reason. His hair, which used to reach down to his ears, had been neatly cut, perhaps after a visit to the hair salon.
He looks much better.
Moving closer, Wooyoung’s eyes scanned his features up and down.
“You’re looking all dolled up like this, too. Why did you dress up like this? Did you have a blind date?”
“Enough with the nonsense. How about that spaghetti restaurant right ahead?”
It was the same place she had been with Tae Jin a few days ago. She suddenly wondered who he was having lunch with.
“Are you okay?”
“…….”
Eun-ho’s voice fell silent.
Suddenly, Jang Tae Jin flickered in her mind. Why is that?
“Song Wooyoung, how about that spaghetti restaurant?”
“Huh? Oh. Sure, sounds good.”
“Why do you seem lost in thought? Come on, let’s go.”
“Yeah.”
As if on cue, the traffic light change, Wooyoung started walking.
Inside the restaurant, they sat down across from each other, looked at the menu handed to them by the staff, and quickly placed their orders.
With only an hour for lunch, they were pressed for time if they wanted to eat and head back.
Wooyoung lifted the glass of water that the server had left behind and began to speak.
“Jang Tae Jin isn’t gay.”
“How can you be so sure?”
Wooyoung took a sip of her water and set it down, sending Eun-ho a confident glare.
“We slept together.”
