To be honest, being a bedchamber maid wasn’t a bad position. No one wants to do it because of the risk of being eliminated by the male lead right away, but as far as work goes, it’s pretty good compared to other jobs.
In all honesty, I was a little intimidated by the workload in the morning, but aside from room cleaning, I had my own free time until he came back.
I made my way to my room.
The first thing I had to do was make some checklists. I needed to look at the diary again, and I needed to make a plan to get out of here.
I had a lot of work to do.
“Ugh, my life……”
I sighed heavily.
They say that sighing a lot reduces your lifespan, but I felt like I’d lost a whole year of life just today.
I made a mental note and went to my room.
The one closest to the crown prince’s bedchamber.
It was close enough that I could hear the bell he rang.
For the time being, I don’t think I’ll be able to stretch out and sleep.
When I opened the door, I was greeted with a shabby scene that was quite comparable to the crown prince’s room.
I picked up the diary I had thrown away and went to the desk to sit down.
The moment I opened it, I screamed and jumped out of my seat.
“Aaaagh!”
The words on the page had changed.
I straightened my grip on the pen and moved closer with the intention of tearing it apart.
When I looked at the diary, I saw words written in red.
[The duke gave me poison. There’s a box under the bed, to the right.]
I frowned sharply.
And then I immediately turned my gaze to the foot of the bed.
There it was, a box as black as death.
‘Now…… what does this have to do with me?’
I tried to make some sort of sense of it.
Was I really possessing someone in a book?
In fact, too many things have already proved this to be true to deny the fact that I was possessing someone in the book.
The crown prince’s name, the scar on his palm.
I spit out a bitter laugh at the absurdity of it all.
First, I opened the box under my bed, just as the diary said, and found a small vial.
It was an unpleasant purple liquid that insisted on saying, “I’m poison”.
I grabbed the small bottle and remembered a scene from a movie I enjoyed watching for a while. No way could this diary…….
I rushed back to the desk and scribbled a comment under the red text.
‘What are you?’
I waited a while. Nothing changed.
My pulse was racing.
My head felt like it was going to explode. As far as I could remember, magic existed in this world.
Of course, magic was reserved for the nobility.
Which meant that it was ridiculous for Rose, a noble by title only, to be in possession of magical items…….
‘Maybe throw it away.’
I narrowed my eyes and glared at the diary.
All sorts of thoughts raced through my mind.
Was Rose’s spirit trapped in that diary, and was it actually just a horror story and not a bloody romance fantasy? I looked around for some salt.
There was no way there was any salt in this room.
At that moment, I saw the small bottle of perfume I had stolen from the male lead.
I stared at the perfume bottle and the mysterious purple liquid in my hand for a moment.
I wondered why this was written in the diary.
I mentally organized the three key words I saw in the diary.
The crown prince, assassination, and poison.
If I don’t kill the crown prince, the duke will kill me.
So how will the duke kill me?
I immediately put the poison in a small empty perfume bottle.
I had to live first.
If his hired assassins came to kill me, this poison was the only weapon I could use.
If the poison was originally given to the crown prince to kill him, it must have a very strong killing power.

Knock-.
The sound of the door knock was unique and special. I lowered my head before opening the door.
Two pairs of luxurious shoes were visible at the end of my gaze.
It was obvious without looking. The male lead and the sub male lead.
“Your Highness, shall I prepare some tea?”
At my question, the male lead looked at me with disdain, as if I were a suspicious insect.
“You’re getting quite noisy. Handle things yourself.”
“Yes, Your Highness.”
The male lead brushed past me like he didn’t care, and a gorgeous silver-haired man followed closely behind him.
Ruel Chris.
The man behind the whole mess and disaster was quite handsome and good-looking.
It was a bit amazing to see his appearance as it was so often described.
Black-haired male leads and silver-haired sub male leads are the norm.
I served the male lead’s favorite vanilla tea, just like I had seen in the book.
I remembered that the female lead always served him soft tea to match her image.
I wondered if he would be upset that I was serving him instead of her, but it’s my duty to serve him.
My hands trembled unnecessarily as I served the tea.
If this contains poison, I will surely die.
The male lead is not a male lead without reason. Even if I poisoned it, it wouldn’t work. Only I would lose.
That said, I didn’t want to be the guilty party.
The male lead won’t die even if he drinks poison, but what if he meets his end?
“So, what do you want to do?”
“Well, we have the information on the people involved.”
While the tea brewed, there was some pretty important political talk in the room.
As if they didn’t care that I was listening, they were making plans for the death of the third prince.
There are four brothers in the line of succession to the throne.
He will kill them all and ascend to the throne.
It seemed that the third prince would be his first victim.
I carefully set the tea and light refreshments down on the table.
He looked up at me as if to ask what I was doing, and I calmly returned his gaze.
“I have prepared some black tea, flavored with vanilla, and a light snack, amaretti.”
Just as I was about to step back after the simple explanation, the male lead called me over.
“I need you to run an errand.”
His expression was filled with discomfort.
“At the end of the corridor, in the room without lights, find volume three of the Imperial History.”
I could barely manage to contain both my furious thoughts and my uneasy glance at the order that was given.
It felt like he was sending me away so he could talk about more important things.
“Yes, Your Highness.”
With that, I turned and walked out of the suffocating room.
I was a little out of breath.
To say the least, it was unpleasant to hear them openly plotting who they would kill.
But more than that, I was terrified that I’d do something wrong in that room and die.
“……..I can’t live up to my name like this.”
I breathed a sigh of relief and walked toward the room at the end of the hallway that the male lead had mentioned.
I picked up a candlestick hanging nearby and opened the door, revealing a space with a very creepy atmosphere.
It looked like it had been abandoned for a long time.
I felt like a bug was going to jump out of nowhere, and it made me feel terrible.
I was able to quickly find the Imperial History.
I looked through the cluttered bookshelves and found the book without much difficulty.
Luckily, it had been carefully organized.
I turned and headed out the door, inwardly proud of my unexpectedly quick work.
That’s when it happened.
Huff-
I heard the noise of someone deliberately turning off the fire and my view was blocked.
I froze in place.
‘Who is that?’
The first thing that came to mind was the male lead’s face, but he wasn’t one of those guys who would just follow me to play pranks on me.
Instinctively, I could feel that I was in a pretty bad situation.
No, I was sure of it.
Clutching the thick book tightly against me, I listened for footsteps. They just turned off the light, so they must be around here.
Damn it, I had to think.
If I’m right, the person in this room with me right now must be an assassin sent by the duke.
Because tomorrow he wants that assassin in the male lead’s chambers, and I’m not dead yet!’
An assassin in my otherwise peaceful life.
I closed my eyes and composed myself.
I began to strategize my way out of this.
Unless these men were fools, they wouldn’t openly ‘murder’ me here.
I was technically one of the crown prince’s people. If the Duke was a political enemy of the Crown Prince, there would be a murder investigation by his highness as to who killed me.
And if that were to happen, it would disrupt the duke’s plans to assassinate the Crown Prince in many ways.
I’m currently on the fifth floor, the highest floor of the Crown Prince’s Palace.
I looked out the window.
I swallowed hard.
Most likely, I would fall out of the window to my death today.
Become the young maid who was so scared of the crown prince that she took her own life…….
Unfortunately, I had no intention of dying under the guise of suicide.
Tak-
At the same time, I pushed the bookshelf with all my might.
Boom, Tak, tak!
The sound of the bookshelf falling echoed in the hallway.
“Damn b*tch……!”
I heard a low male voice.
I gritted my teeth and quickly circled the bookshelves.
But the man wasn’t going to let me get away, and he jumped to his feet and started running toward me.
He was wearing a robe, and it was dark, so I couldn’t see him very well.
I stepped back, clutching the third volume of Imperial History, and reached for the perfume bottle in my arms.
“You asshole.”
Click-
The poison contained in the perfume bottle that was meant to kill the male lead was poured into the eyes of the man who was attempting to kill me.
