I Became A Wretched Extra In A Healing Story - Chapter 19
“I should go now. It’s time for food tasting.”
Reibella, who had given the perfect answer, stood up. Then he asked.
“May I come back later?”
“Do you have any more business with me?”
“No, not really, but…”
“Then, no.”
Reibella firmly shook her head. If there was no reason to avoid the knights anymore, she needed to go around and find out about the boy now.
If he was a fanatic of the princess and wanted to make time to talk about her, she really wanted to refuse.
Moreover, earlier, during the process of asking and answering questions about the princess, she saw him slightly reaching for his sword with a resolute face as if he had made some big decision. She didn’t want to be close to someone who might try to harm her.
As Reibella greeted him brightly, his lips quivered. He seemed to want to say something, but he was clearly hesitating.
Then, as if he had made up his mind, he opened his mouth.
“Do you know about the knight’s oath?”
“Well, I don’t really… Then I’m busy, so I’ll be going now!”
As it seemed like he was about to reach for his sword again, Reibella quickly turned away without hesitation.
She kept feeling his gaze on the back of her head, but she didn’t look back. She just hurried her steps.
* * *
…She thought that was the end of her contact with the First Knight Order.
Reibella went to taste food for the princess and ended up face to face with Dominic Carlson sitting opposite the princess.
After finishing the meal time with a more uncomfortable feeling than usual, the princess left first. When Reibella was about to leave after tidying up, he grabbed her and asked with an ominous air.
“Did you give medicine to Sir Eden?”
Like he was angry, asking if she had tried to kill one of his subordinates.
Surprised by Sir Carlson’s demeanor, Reibella’s eyes widened. But that was all. She quickly composed her nervous mind.
“Yes, I gave him medicine.”
Because she hadn’t done anything wrong.
If she hadn’t seen that he was alive, she would have been very flustered, but having met him earlier, she could be confident.
‘So that person is Sir Eden.’
Come to think of it, she hadn’t heard his name. Could it be that what he was trying to say at the end, his lips quivering, was because he couldn’t tell his name?
After thinking about him for a moment, Reibella looked straight at Sir Carlson again and calmly continued her answer.
“The medicine I gave him was a first-aid medicine given to me by my family.”
This question was expected, and she had prepared the answer after much consideration.
“First-aid medicine?”
“Yes. It’s medicine my parents gave me.”
It wasn’t strange to carry first-aid medicine for unexpected situations. Moreover, House Felicity actually had a secret medicine considered a panacea. It was said to have been made by the sage Tolbish Lerang, and its ingredients, manufacturing method, and efficacy were kept confidential.
Carlson seemed to have heard such rumors too, as he immediately nodded in agreement with her words.
“Do you know the manufacturing method?”
“No, I don’t know anything. Maybe there are documents left at Reliccarve Castle?”
“Reliccarve, you mean the former Felicity territory?”
“I don’t know about the mansion in the capital since I haven’t been there, but there was quite a large pharmacy in Reliccarve Castle in the territory. They did various research too. I heard it was established by the sage, Tolbish Lerang.”
But sadly, when the emperor’s knights barged in, the entire pharmacy was burned down.
Carlson seemed to remember that too, as he instantly showed a regretful expression.
“Still, just in case, I should send someone to check. If it’s such a great medicine, it would be good to distribute it to the knights to keep as a standard supply.”
He muttered softly, then looked at Reibella again. An apologetic expression appeared on his face.
“You must have been surprised by my sudden call. I’m sorry.”
“I was a bit surprised, but it’s okay.”
“Actually, the reason I looked for you was to thank you for saving Sir Eden’s life. The order is reversed, but thank you for saving Sir Eden.”
He continued.
“Eden is like a precious younger brother to me. To all of us in the knight order.”
“……”
“Moreover, those wounds he got then were from trying to save me. So, it’s as if you saved my benefactor.”
She thought he might have been ostracized within the knight order for not being able to receive treatment from priests or mages because he was a commoner. But that didn’t seem to be the case.
Reibella answered with a bright smile.
“It was nothing. I’m just glad that what I did helped the commander!”
At this spirited response, Carlson looked at Reibella with slightly surprised eyes, then soon smiled faintly.
“I see. Thank you for thinking that way. If you ever need my help, just tell me. Anything I can do, I’ll be glad to.”
At those words, Sir Eden’s question about whether she wanted to leave the palace suddenly came to mind.
Would he help if she asked to leave the palace?
She quickly erased the meaningless assumption. Carlson was a knight loyal to the imperial family.
“It’s okay. I didn’t do anything big.”
“It doesn’t have to be now. Whenever you need anything, come find me.”
“Yes, I will.”
As Reibella, who didn’t want to get entangled with the novel’s characters at all, would never seek him out… No, wait.
‘Maybe this person…’
For a moment, Reibella hesitated as she thought of the boy with ruby-colored eyes.
As someone close to the emperor, wouldn’t he know?
After pondering for a moment, Reibella carefully opened her lips.
“Um, then maybe…”
* * *
‘…Is it really here?’
Reibella looked around with surprised eyes.
The area around the palace where the boy was said to stay was densely surrounded by large trees, and the garden was overgrown with weeds due to lack of proper management. The fountain had dried up and was covered in moss, the trees were withered, and the stone decorations were broken or fallen.
It wasn’t as if the palace at the center was in good condition either. Large vines were wrapped around the building, making it look like an ancient ruin.
‘Even the way here wasn’t normal.’
There should have been a large road leading to the palace, but all she saw on the way here were densely grown trees.
‘No wonder I couldn’t find it.’
A palace not on the map, inside the Forest of the Dead. It was natural that it couldn’t be found.
“Be careful. You’ll fall.”
With the warning, a thick arm stretched out in front of Reibella. Reibella’s gaze traced from the fingertips up to its owner.
It was Sir Eden, the knight with hair as beautiful as a wheat field.
“The path is rough. Watch your step carefully.”
“Thank you.”
When Reibella lightly bowed her head towards him and then raised it, his kind eyes met hers.
Reibella, who smiled at him once, recalled her conversation with Dominic Carlson a few days ago.
‘Why do you want to meet that person again?’
This was Carlson’s first words when she merely mentioned the boy’s appearance and asked if he was in the palace.
Reibella was startled by that answer.
‘He knows that I met that child.’
So she didn’t bother to lie.
She watched his reaction, wondering if he might also know about the antidote herb, but he showed no sign of knowing about that. It seemed he knew about their meeting on the day she was visiting the grave, but didn’t know about their subsequent meeting.
So she could boldly omit the details about the antidote herb.
‘I happened to meet him near the forest, and he was of great help to me. He’s like my benefactor, so I’d like to express my gratitude.’
Carlson pondered for a moment at Reibella’s words. Then he opened his mouth with a small sigh.
‘I understand the circumstances, but meeting him could be dangerous for you.’
‘Dangerous? Why?’
‘Well…’
He hesitated for a moment before continuing.
‘His Majesty is keeping an eye on him. If you get close, you could be swept up in that danger too.’
Thinking his words might be a bit difficult to understand, he explained again.
‘His life is like a candle in the wind. Like yours.’
‘……’
‘Knowing that, do you still want to meet him?’
It seemed he was indeed in a dangerous situation. If she ignored this now, it would be as if nothing had happened, but…
After pondering for a moment, Reibella gathered her courage and nodded.
