I Married My Younger Sister’s Fiance - Chapter 1
After ten years, they received a prophecy.
<The child of light will save the world drenched in darkness and reclaim the light.>
Everyone started moving to find the child of light.
It was funny to see them searching without even knowing who it was.
Selvia, sitting precariously on top of a tall building, laughed softly as she watched them.
“They’ll be barging into my house soon.”
Although it was still supposed to be daylight, darkness began to settle in the sky.
Selvia murmured as she watched the sky gradually lose its light.
“Mother, it seems everyone is looking for me.”
She smiled faintly as she looked at the necklace in her hand.
Darkness began to spread more densely around her body.
* * *
Selvia Grace Flandre.
Born into the family of light, she was the rightful heir but possessed no power.
To be exact, she was born with the opposite power. Darkness born into the family of light.
Because of this, unlike the always shining Leliana, only unknown ominous events occurred around Selvia.
Leliana and her father were somewhat aware that Selvia possessed the power of darkness.
However, since they were a family of light, they were reluctant to reveal the power of darkness.
They treated Selvia as if she didn’t exist and ordered her to keep her power a secret.
Leliana was different from Selvia. Everyone around her liked her.
She was never alone, and there was always light sparkling around her.
Because she was born with the power of light.
Naturally, the king wanted Leliana. If the child of light was to save the world, light was needed.
The king thought Leliana was the ‘light’ mentioned in the prophecy. Everyone probably thought so.
On the continent, the importance of night grew over the bright day, and the continent needed the power of light.
The reason why the power of prophecy had grown compared to the past when royal power was strong.
The saying that it would be engulfed in darkness meant that the sun would no longer rise.
But if a successor with the power of light is born, the sun will not set.
That was the stance of the temple interpreting the prophecy.
For people, the sun was an incredibly important existence.
Without the sun, many aspects of life including agriculture would be hindered.
People would lose their vitality after being devoured by darkness, and hope would gradually disappear from a kingdom without light.
What the Delpheron Kingdom needed now was not a king but a child of prophecy who could save the country.
However, Leliana, who was born with the power of light, did not want to become queen.
The reason was simple.
There were many bad rumors about King Beatus.
There were rumors that he was lame and that he wore a mask because his face was hideously disfigured.
Of course, all of that was just rumors.
Despite being a king, no one had actually seen Beatus.
Leliana did not want to become the wife of a king surrounded by scandals.
Not wanting to marry the king, she did something cute.
She decided to send her sister, who did not possess any power of light, in her place.
Duke Flandre patted Leliana on the shoulder and said,
“Tell Selvia. I’ve sent a letter to the king so there shouldn’t be any problems.”
“But, is it really okay? Even so, he’s still the king. What if he decides to kill me…”
Leliana was worried about what would happen later.
“Don’t worry. There’s a plan for everything.”
Duke Flandre was an opportunist.
If only he could have a child of prophecy, Duke Flandre would live prosperously for generations.
“Really? Then I’ll trust you, Father.”
“Yes, when have I ever let you down?”
Leliana’s face brightened at her father’s words.
“I found you a fiancé for superficial reasons. I’ll have you break off the engagement soon enough; just pretend for a while.”
“Fi, fine. I really hate those insignificant families!”
Leliana grumbled and followed her father’s words. And this fact remained a secret to Selvia until the day she entered the palace.
* * *
On the day Leliana was supposed to go to the royal palace, she brought a man home.
That’s when Selvia had a hunch.
That she would be going to become queen in place of Leliana.
“Sister, say hello. This is Lord Ian Devorsel, we’re engaged.”
Selvia thought Ian’s smile, with his blue eyes and golden hair falling softly, suited Leliana well.
But she was not pleased with this situation.
How could she get engaged to another man without saying anything?
Especially since Leliana had been chosen by the royal family.
Bringing in a fiancé like this meant defying the king’s command.
Even if the power of prophecy had grown stronger, in the Delpheron Kingdom, royal authority was still strong until now.
‘The prophecy must have spread across the continent.’
Given this situation, not only the kingdom but also empires would move.
At a time when the power of light is needed, maybe every country on the continent will be looking for the child of prophecy.
So King Delpheron must be anxious.
If someone possesses the power of light, there’s a high chance they’d be made queen regardless.
Even so, Leliana’s unilateral actions were not good.
Even if Flandre possessed the power of light, it was an action against the king’s will.
Selvia hated complications.
“Come out for a talk.”
“Ian, could you wait here? It seems my sister is shocked.”
Leliana lightly brushed Ian’s arm and smiled.
He nodded indifferently and looked at Selvia.
She felt his gaze piercing through her but ignored it.
Selvia calmly asked Leliana in a place where others couldn’t see them,
“…Leliana, why didn’t you tell me about this important issue beforehand?”
At her sister’s words, Leliana snorted,
“Why should I?”
“Obviously. The king won’t leave us alone if he finds out. Both me and you.”
“Sister, His Majesty can’t kill me. Why? Because he knows I possess the power of light.”
Leliana scoffed and pushed Selvia’s shoulder lightly,
“So I don’t need to worry. But what about you? Do you think it’ll be okay if you refuse to go?”
“You know I don’t have the power of light.”
“So?”
Leliana tilted her head and asked Selvia,
Her eyes briefly looked down before quickly scanning Selvia,
“Seems like you really thought I would go. Why would I? To a king surrounded by scandals and not even properly on the throne?”
Selvia clenched her skirt tightly,
“The royal family wanted you because you have the power of light. But if I go without any power at all, neither you nor I will be safe.”
She had been looking forward to leaving the family but not like this,
“What does that have to do with me?”
Leliana snorted and patted Selvia’s shoulder with her hand,
“Don’t complain. After all, you’re no help to our family anyway. You’re gloomy, you don’t do well in the social circles, and most of all, no one likes you, older sister.”
“You… how can you say such a thing.”
“Did I say something wrong? You should be thankful to me for giving you the only chance to be of any help to the family.”
Selvia closed her lips tightly at Leliana’s arrogant behavior.
It must have been their plan from the beginning.
They might have planned to send me instead of Leliana so they didn’t reject the letter from the royal family.
And I was the only one who didn’t know anything about it.
‘It’s clear that father also knew everything and took some measures.’
Leliana was not such a bold child.
No matter how powerful the temple’s power is compared to the king’s, suddenly changing the person to become the queen doesn’t make sense.
That means father must have given something to Beatus to keep him quiet.
Then, the game was set from the start.
No matter how much I struggled not wanting to go, it was useless.
“Do you think Devorsel knows all about this?”
“I wouldn’t have acted so foolishly. He’s just a pawn to be used for a while.”
“A pawn to be used for a while?”
“Why do you want to know? Just quietly become the queen. It’s natural. It’s too wasteful for me to marry into a lesser family.”
Leliana glanced at where Ian was and shivered.
“You shouldn’t use people like that.”
The smile on Leliana’s face disappeared in an instant at Selvia’s words.
Leliana brushed Selvia’s hair back over her shoulder and whispered in her ear.
“You better take care of yourself. You’re meddling in things that don’t concern you.”
She patted Selvia’s shoulder as if there was nothing more to say and left.
Left alone, Selvia clenched her fists.
Darkness gathered around her.
“Ah… I’m sorry. I thought Leliana was here.”
Startled by Ian’s appearance, Selvia let go of her tension and looked at him.
Ian stared at Selvia and then handed her a handkerchief from his pocket.
“I didn’t see anything.”
Selvia quickly composed herself and turned away to hide her reddened eyes.
“It seems you crossed paths with Leliana. Then, I’ll leave now…”
“Thank you.”
Ian’s voice reached Selvia as she turned away.
Selvia thought it would be their last meeting.
