“Hey, miss, wake up! We’ve arrived.”
“Ah… Thank you.”
Adelia, who had been dozing off with drool dripping down her mouth, abruptly woke up at the familiar voice of the coachman.
The carriage that the butler had arranged was an ordinary one that commoners rode.
Hastily grabbing her bag, a rough-looking coachman approached.
Seeing him, Adelia trembled involuntarily.
With scars on his face and a scruffy beard, the coachman could easily be mistaken for a fearsome criminal.
He was several times bigger than Adelia, and with each step he took, it felt like the ground was trembling.
As he approached, Adelia swallowed nervously and tightly gripped the bag she held in her arms.
“Traveling is nice, but be careful. The waves have been rough lately, and several people who came to the temple have died.”
The coachman, who had come close, said and smiled.
Adelia, with a bewildered expression, unknowingly responded.
“Really?”
“A lot of tourists came because the shrine where the saint appeared is here. But some were swept away by the waves and died. So be careful, miss.”
“Haha, thank you.”
Adelia greeted the unexpectedly friendly coachman and set off toward her destination.
“So, was there a saint in the original story? I guess you get to know a lot more things when you possess a character.”
She briefly became interested in the unfamiliar information, but as more people crowded around, her attention quickly shifted elsewhere.
Passing through the bustling town and the street lined with inns, a wide sandy beach stretched out.
A dense fog settled over the sandy beach, obscuring the view of the blue sea.
The sound of crashing waves could be heard, so loud that it seemed as if the roaring waves could conceal any number of deaths.
The rumors about many people dying here were not unfounded.
In this eerie and gloomy atmosphere, Adelia’s body trembled as if even ghosts could jump out at any moment.
“But I still have to go. What else can I do? Will ghosts come out or something?”
Sighing, Adelia took a deep breath and walked along the foggy beach.
Brushing off the sand that entered between the low heels of her shoes, Adelia walked diligently, occasionally taking breaks when her legs started to ache and entered into the fog.
She had been walking diligently for an hour like that.
A look of surprise crossed her face as she scanned the sea.
“I found it!”
The towering cliffs stretched endlessly towards the sea.
As she touched the wall with her hand and followed along the cliff, the dense fog obscured her path.
Although her steps became slower as the view ahead became faint, she couldn’t stop.
The sound of crashing waves grew closer. The refreshing scent of the sea tickled her nose, and the roaring sound brushed past her ears.
When she turned her head towards the sound, a large cave came into view.
“Wow… It’s exactly like the original.”
The entrance of the towering cave was covered in lush vines.
She gently parted the dense vines which almost made it hard to tell if there was a cave, and then Adelia entered the cave.
As soon as she entered, a chilling sensation ran through her body.
Taking out a lamp from her bag, Adelia quietly walked forward.
The dark cave was so deep that she couldn’t see the end.
‘It’s tough…’
As time passed, her footsteps noticeably slowed down.
Cold sweat trickled down her face, following the delicate contours, and met the chilly breeze, causing her body temperature to drop. Her legs trembled, exhausted from walking without rest.
When she felt her breath being stifled, Adelia’s face crumpled in disarray.
“If I continue like this, I might really die… Huh?”
Bowing her head deeply, Adelia slowly raised her head.
Unconsciously, she had been grasping something right in front of her.
There was only one thing that could firmly block the way in this cave.
“The end of the cave! I’ve arrived.”
Adelia shouted as she felt the solid dead-end wall with her hands.
From the wall, she felt a warmth that didn’t match the cold breeze in the cave. Finally, she had found the place she was looking for.
The expression of joy lasted only for a moment. She quickly transformed into a serious expression.
‘This is where the villain went…’
Adelia slowly recalled the contents of the original work.
There was only one reason why she came here. It was to intercept the white magic that the ultimate villain obtained from this place.
The white magic, specialized in healing and defense, could not only end her limited lifespan but also serve as a stepping stone to obtain something even greater.
“I seek the origin of all power and the ability to harness the most powerful force of light.”
The line that should have come out of the villain’s mouth years later was now in Adelia’s possession.
The moment her dialogue ended, an eerie sound could be heard from beyond the wall.
“Who is it.”
As expected.
Adelia raised the corner of her mouth and placed her hand on her waist.
“I am Adelia Vita.”
Adelia’s name echoed through the cave.
By the time the voice turned into a booming sound, a response came from beyond the wall.
“How strange. A human with two names.”
“…How did you know.”
Adelia’s blue eyes dilated.
She quickly remembered that the Guardian of Light could see through the essence of a person.
Her shoulders, which had risen in surprise, dropped back down.
“Kim Bada. That’s my first name.”
“Oh… Truly two names. Have you received a blessing from the gods?”
“Whether it’s a blessing or a curse, I’m not sure, but I believe I’ve given a sufficient answer. Now, please open the door.”
“Very well. I shall grant you entry.”
Soon, the ground began to shake as if an earthquake had occurred. Dust scattered in all directions, and with a loud noise, the wall moved.
After a moment, where the wall had been, there was now a sparkling door leading to a brightly lit room.
“Huh…”
Adelia barely covered her gaping mouth with her hand and stepped inside.
“This… How much is all this?”
When Adelia entered the place, seemingly possessed, she looked around restlessly.
The rough stone walls were piled with gold coins, like a mountain, and in the center was a holy sword radiating a bright light, embedded in the stone.
Adelia had expected this space with the holy sword and the Guardian of Light to be extraordinary, but it exceeded her imagination.
“Hah. The first thing you see when I come in is not the holy sword or me, but gold coins. How materialistic.”
The Guardian of Light grumbled.
“Haha. It’s pretty, isn’t it?”
Adelia confidently replied. It was a very natural phenomenon for her attention to be drawn to beautiful things.
As evidence of that, Adelia’s gaze lingered on the Guardian of Light the longest.
The creature in the form of a wolf had tantalizing golden fur that seemed to scatter light around it, with only its tail dipped in gold.
A wolf larger than Adelia, approached.
“I am the Guardian of Light. It’s been a while since I’ve met a human. Nice to meet you.”
“Nice to meet you too, Guardian.”
The Guardian of Light circled around Adelia, observing her.
At first glance, she was a frail figure. With a pale face that seemed to shy away from the sunlight.
“You’re disqualified.”
“What…?”
Adelia lost her words at the firm statement.
To be disqualified just like that. What kind of situation was this?
“Do you think you can handle the white magic with such a weak body? You’ll probably suffer from side effects. And calculating the magic formula requires complex mathematical knowledge.”
The wolf snorted with disdain, then lazily lay down on the pile of gold coins.
Adelia pursed her lips and stared at that sight.
The wolf, as if ignoring her, nestled on top of the gold coins and closed its eyes.
Adelia’s fists clenched tightly as her anger bubbled up inside her.
“Hey.”
“…Hey?”
Adelia crossed her arms and spoke firmly.
The wolf raised its head in surprise, looking around as if asking if she was referring to him.
“Yeah, you. I showed respect as the Guardian of Light, and now what? Saying it’s impossible for me with my weak body? Why are you lying?”
“You! How dare you!”
The wolf stood up and approached with a thud.
With a face full of wrinkles, the wolf bared its menacing teeth in front of Adelia.
The sight of the wolf growling with its sharp teeth was quite threatening.
His appearance was no different from a real wolf, and it was several times larger, enough to make ordinary people tremble in fear.
Adelia didn’t back down in fear, but instead raised her chin confidently.
“You can’t harm people.”
Adelia said with a smirk. It was a laugh that was more like a sneer.
Then the Guardian of Light stamped its front paw on the ground and became angry.
“You… You annoying little brat!”
The Guardian of Light lowered its tail and stepped back, just as Adelia had said, it couldn’t harm people.
The Guardian of Light is a being that protects white magic for eternity. It was created as a being that could not harm humans from the beginning.
The wolf, with its ears drooping, trembled as if it didn’t like it.
“Tsk. After three hundred years, the white magic candidate is a girl like you. You’ll have a hard time even if you get the power.”
The Guardian of Light had to admit it.
He was deceived by her fragile appearance. This girl was stronger than she looked. Not physically, but mentally.
Finally, the Guardian of Light sighed deeply and opened its mouth.
“So, what do you plan to do with this power?”
“My fate is doomed if I continue like this. As you can see, I have nothing and I’m busy trying to survive for another day. I thought I could prolong my life with white magic. Oh, and take revenge while I’m at it.”
“That’s… the most realistic reason I’ve heard so far.”
The Guardian of Light looked at the girl with a solemn face.
Among the reasons that have been presented so far, they were either about destructive and useless endeavors like unifying the world or seeking revenge. The best they could come up with was that they wanted to create a new empire.
