As Lucian stood still with a stiff expression, Adelia, who was leaning back in her chair, put down her documents.
“I tend to spread things out a bit when I work.”
Adelia awkwardly smiled as she hurriedly tidied up the papers. Though she called it tidying, it was merely stacking them in one place, so the cluttered atmosphere remained.
Lucian entered the room with a low sigh.
“It’s supposed to be a honeymoon, yet you’re working even here?”
“We’re not really newlyweds, you know. This is just for show. Besides, I’m not leisurely enough to play around for a whole week. Think of all the people working under us.”
“Still, you’re probably the only one working at a vacation spot.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t work the entire week. Once I’ve handled some things, I’ll rest for about two days.”
Adelia shrugged nonchalantly.
Lucian gave her a skeptical look. He doubted whether she truly intended to rest, given that she was working even now.
And his intuition was correct.
“Didn’t you say you were going to rest?”
“Hm? I am resting now.”
“Usually, reading magic books isn’t considered resting.”
Lucian had been helping Adelia a little with her work. While the Emperor could take over the Crown Prince’s duties, there was no one to substitute for the guild master’s work.
Although he didn’t like her being engrossed in work even on vacation, Lucian respected her. The positions of Crown Prince and guild master were different, and he believed her before when she said she would rest.
‘I was naive to believe that.’
Adelia had stayed cooped up in the room until the last day of their honeymoon. At first, she worked, and after finishing her work, she took out books from the mansion’s library to read.
For book lovers, reading was indeed a form of relaxation. Lucian himself enjoyed reading light literature like novels or essays on his days off. However, Adelia’s way of resting was different.
Lucian glared at the books on the table.
[Secrets of the Darkest Ancient Magic]
[Common Curses and Countermeasures]
[Blessings and Costs of Holy Power]
[Magic Power, Holy Power, and Swords]
Each one was considered difficult even by experts in their respective fields. They were full of content that only someone deeply versed in the subject could understand.
Lucian picked up one with a sour expression.
“I can understand the others, but why are you reading a book about holy power?”
“Oh, it was mixed in with the magic books, maybe they were shelved wrong. I suddenly had an interesting hypothesis, so I brought it over.”
Adelia answered nonchalantly, her gaze fixed on the book. Curious about what she was so focused on reading, Lucian glanced at her book and was startled.
It was filled with content so complex it was hard to tell if it was an ancient magic text or a mathematics book.
“What’s so interesting about that?”
“It’s incredibly interesting. Ancient magic is fascinating, even if the ancient language is difficult. There are spells that aren’t used anymore, as well as pharmacology and magical formulas.”
When she said it was interesting, Lucian frowned as if he couldn’t accept it. Then he snatched the book she was reading.
Adelia stretched out her hand with round eyes. Sitting down, no matter how much she reached, she couldn’t retrieve the book from Lucian’s hand as he stood. Finally, after pointlessly grasping at the air, Adelia pouted.
“Why did you take it away?”
“You need to go outside. Don’t you get bored being cooped up in the room all day?”
Lucian placed a bookmark where Adelia had been reading and put the book down on the table.
Only after the book was taken away did her blue eyes focus on a person instead of text.
“This is rest for me. I’m not taking regular walks like usual, and I don’t have to stop His Highness and His Majesty from causing trouble.”
“You’re lazy in strange ways.”
She’s diligent enough to work even on vacation, yet finding walks bothersome. Lucian sighed, placing a hand on his forehead.
“What do you usually do to relax? Surely you don’t read books every day off?”
Adelia fell silent for a moment at Lucian’s question, pondering. She rested her chin on one hand and pursed her lips. She moved her tightly closed mouth back and forth, rolling her eyes.
Then, as if something had occurred to her, she lifted her head and smiled awkwardly.
“I had tea time with the princess. Other than that, I hardly had any days off.”
“Surely you must have had moments of free time, or days without work?”
“Where could I find days without work? When the guild was small, I was busy doing everything, and as it grew, I was busy with all the projects we’d taken on. If I had a moment, I’d look at magic books… Oh! Is that what you mean by a day off?”
Adelia was sincere.
Since entering this body, she could hardly remember relaxing comfortably. Except for the time she spent with Ariana, her hands were always holding books or documents.
Even when she ate breakfast, she was reading newspapers, and during walks, her mind was occupied with business thoughts or organizing the original story.
Even after all that, when Adelia had a moment, she filled it with deep sleep.
Watching Adelia like this, Lucian spoke with a determined face.
“Let’s go out together.”
“What? I prefer resting by reading books rather than going outside.”
“No books allowed today. We’re going back to the capital tomorrow, you can read then.”
Adelia sprawled in her chair and whined. This place was near the seaside, but there wasn’t anything special about it. The seaside alone wasn’t enough to pique Adelia’s interest.
Lucian was adamant. He didn’t give up easily and persistently tried to persuade her.
“And didn’t you say you’d buy gifts for Ariana? We need to go out to buy gifts.”
“I’ve already sent someone to the jeweler’s since this area is famous for pearls. A pearl necklace for the princess, and a brooch with pearls for the prince. They said they’d deliver them this evening.”
“What’s the point of such impersonal gifts? You could order those in the capital too.”
“That’s true, I suppose.”
“Then let’s go out. You just need to change your clothes. I’ll escort you.”
“Hmm. Alright. But we can’t stay out long.”
Finally giving in to Lucian’s persuasion, Adelia groaned as she got up. Hearing it, Lucian’s words seemed to make sense.
It would be nice to give the pre-ordered gifts as planned and add some carefully chosen ones.
Adelia took off the glasses she was wearing and rubbed the bridge of her nose where they had been pressing.
“I’ll need to get ready if we’re going out.”
Just as Adelia was about to pull the bell rope next to the bed to call a maid, her hand suddenly stopped.
“Come to think of it, it’s a bit too clean for a honeymoon.”
For the sake of public appearance, Lucian and Adelia had used the same bed during their honeymoon. After the exhausting first night, they had woken up perfectly separated, and there had been no skinship between them.
“I’ll need help to put on outdoor clothes.”
During honeymoons, it was customary for servants to avoid encountering the couple as much as possible. Especially the bride, who wouldn’t receive any assistance unless specifically called.
The servants would prepare the bath water, clothes, and meals at set times and then withdraw.
Adelia, who’s not used to being waited on, had simply bathed and changed clothes by herself without much thought.
She would soak in the prepared water, apply cream, and only wear indoor clothes she could put on alone, so she hadn’t even seen the hem of a maid’s dress since the first night.
“It’s strange if it’s too clean, isn’t it?”
Muttering to herself, Adelia suddenly turned and approached Lucian.
Facing Lucian, who was standing next to the table, he blinked as if he didn’t understand what she meant.
“What’s wrong?”
“It doesn’t feel like a honeymoon. I can’t do it alone, so please cooperate.”
Adelia said as she untied the ribbon of her blouse. Her hand was bold as she undid the ribbon that was holding the slightly open part together.
As she loosened and opened the ribbon that had been tightly binding her neck, her white neck and collarbone were revealed.
Lucian stood dazed for a moment before startling and grabbing Adelia’s wrist.
“What are you doing!”
“Ouch! Let go and talk!”
Adelia grimaced. Lucian, momentarily losing control of his strength, had gripped her wrist as if to crush it.
“Ah, I’m sorry.”
Lucian hurriedly released her hand. Though no red marks were left on her white wrist, Adelia shook her aching hand vigorously.
“Still, on the surface, we’re supposed to be a couple who married for love. Even couples in arranged marriages are said to be passionate on their honeymoons. The maids will find it strange if they see us like this.”
“That may be true, but…”
“So, shouldn’t there be at least one kiss mark here?”
Adelia pulled her clothes to the side, exposing her fair shoulder.
