Prologue
“Excessively sweet honey is said to be sickening. Love is the same. It will become a sickening poison and harm you.”
Rosaline thought that Romeo and Juliet would not have heard her warning, which was nothing more than that of a mere servant.
Romeo was a man with shallow eyes and sweet words, who had once courted Rosaline, but was rejected. The pain of the breakup was temporary, and he soon fell in love with Juliet. Rather than despising him, she briefly sympathized with his nature, always thirsty for affection.
What about Juliet? As the heir to the Capulet family, she was faithful and not arrogant, and cherished Rosaline, who was just a servant, as if she were her sister. Rosaline deeply respected and followed her.
So when Juliet said she loved Romeo, she blessed their love, despite the long-standing conflicts between the families.
But did she bless too much? They died beneath the white temple, amidst dozens of violets. For Rosaline, Romeo’s existence was as fleeting as a fleeting affair, but Juliet was her master and only friend.
Rosaline, who had collapsed above the bodies of the young lovers, endlessly caressed Juliet’s pale cheek.
“My lady Juliet, wake up.”
Juliet, who spoke brightly with intelligent eyes while drying up in an impossible love, was not someone who should go so soon. Rosaline raised her head as if to find a way to save Juliet.
The giant statue modeled after the sun god Kata was caught in her blurred vision. The statue, which had no pupils carved in it, seemed to look down on the foolish believers. But it also seemed omnipotent.
Please, please.
“O Kata of the Sun, who is alone and sublime, in the highest place……!”
It felt as if sharp thorns were scratching her throat, but she did not stop shouting.
“I will give you everything. My body and soul are already yours, so please take it if you would like, even my insignificant love. I am not trying to deceive with a crimson tongue. I am not even daring to tell a lie. My heart is as true as transparent tears, so I hope you will believe me.”
Juliet,
“If you will only save Juliet……!!!”
For a moment, light seemed to shine between the surface of the old and cracked statue. Before she could determine whether it was an illusion, Rosaline lost consciousness.
