The hand cradling her head had already lost all warmth.

“I thought you were dead.”

A fleeting smile brushed across his cold face.
It was relief that he hadn’t lost the chance for revenge.
Triumph at not letting his prey escape.
Gone were the clumsy innocence and burdensome kindness.
What he bore now was a refined arrogance and a beautiful sneer.

“It seems you’ve been doing well all this time.”

A dry smile touched his lips as he looked at her.

“Even ended up with a kid I’ve never seen before.”

Shed’s hand slowly swept through her hair, stopping at her pale cheek.

“Tell me… were you happy with that bastard?”

While I was searching the Empire like a madman?
With a grinding of his teeth, he gripped her chin with his long fingers, forcing her head up.

And the shadows that fell upon it.
