Among the four great elements, ‘water’ is the only substance that can exist in its pure form. Across all ages and civilizations, water has long been considered one of the most fundamental elements that make up the world.

As an archetypal symbol, water holds the property of purifying what has been contaminated and washing away filth. Water thus became a symbol of purity and cleansing, and at the same time, because it carries within it the origin of life, it also signifies birth and new life. Yet water always has another side to it. It simultaneously nurtures life while also carrying the imagery of extinction and death, and of parting. At times, people interpret it as a symbol of ‘resurrection,’ where life sprouts anew at the very end of all things fading away.

Water stands at the boundary between beginning and end, creation and destruction. Yet humans far too easily forget the true essence of water, which exists at the heart of all those flows. Do we truly understand its value, its weight?
