Hildegard—the greatest beauty in Regen and the ‘Rose of Szczecin.’
She fell from a tower, felt death closing in, and closed her eyes.
But when she opened them, she was back five years in the past.
She’d gone back in time.
To prevent her husband and his sovereign from achieving victory, Hildegard volunteered to serve as an envoy and began negotiating the release of her husband, who was being held captive by the Duke of Hessen.
And it was there that the Duke of Hessen said to her:
“Have you ever considered trading your husband for someone else?”
Without a doubt, it was the most bewildering thing she’d heard since dying and coming back.
And the person in question was……
“Lord Walenstadt.”
Ehrlich von Anhalt, the duke’s distant cousin and deputy commander of the Hessen army.
She’d once heard that name until she was sick of it. He was the man her husband had hated more bitterly than anyone else, grinding his teeth at the very mention of him.
The cold look in his eyes as he watched her made her chest ache. Seeing him argue back and forth with the Duke of Hessen, insisting that a marriage to her was out of the question, she couldn’t help but let out a bitter smile.
But she couldn’t go back. The truth was, her choice had already been made.
“I’ll do it.”
“Countess, what did you say?”
“I’ll accept Your Highness’s proposal. If Lord Walenstadt agrees.”
Ehrlich frowned.
But instead of recommending someone else as the duke had suggested, he let out a sigh and gave an unexpected answer.
“……I’ll do it.”
And so, in the midst of the war of succession for the throne of Regen, Hildegard’s divorce and remarriage were decided.
