‘This bastard. Should I just kill him?’
Yul-hye thought seriously.
Standing in front of her was a man she found completely unbearable – there was no better way to describe him than to say he was a truly unbearable human being. His name was Jung Do-yoon, and he was a goddamn bastard.
“Please, I’m begging you. Huh? Yul-hye, I’m begging you, okay?”
‘Why on earth should I listen to you just because you’re begging? Huh? Why, you idiot?’
Those words rose in her throat, ready to burst out, but Yul-hye managed to hold them back. This Jung Do-yoon, this good-for-nothing scoundrel, had been pestering her nonstop since yesterday, repeating the same ridiculous request. It was really annoying.
“Just one night. That’s all I’m asking. Just one night, okay? Can’t you endure it for just one night, for my sake?”
Why on earth should she do something like that for this man?
‘He’s so selfish that he can’t think straight, which leads him to make ridiculous demands while claiming they’re for his own good.’
Did he really think she cared enough about him to go along with this? Did he really not understand that the only reason she had tolerated him so far was because of her late parents, who had died last winter? Or was he just pretending not to know?
From his behavior, it was clear that this was the result of pure ignorance rather than pretense. This person, whose mind seemed to be filled with nothing but nonsense, was not only foolish but also incredibly greedy. He had no awareness of his own place in the world, yet he desired so much.
How could someone like him, a total disgrace of a human being, have been born to parents like Jung Dae-in and his wife?
The late Jung Dae-in couple, who had passed away last winter, were some of the most admirable people the world had ever known. They were so virtuous that everyone around them spoke highly of their character. They helped the poor whenever they could, lived simple and frugal lives, and believed in the dignity of every individual, regardless of age or status. They never treated anyone, no matter how young or of low standing, with disrespect.
They consistently turned down offers of high-ranking positions and chose to live as ordinary people until the very end. Jung Dae-in and his wife, who always upheld and supported their values, were people Yul-hye could only look up to with deep admiration.
And yet, to think such an outstanding couple had given birth to this shameless troublemaker! If you looked at it another way, their untimely deaths were probably his fault.
If this scoundrel hadn’t made such outrageous demands, the Jung Dae-in couple wouldn’t have passed away so tragically and senselessly.
But as if it weren’t enough that he had effectively caused his parents’ deaths, this man now had the audacity to make such a shameless request of her without even an ounce of guilt. What a bastard.
The absurd request from this dog pretending to be human was simply unbelievable.
“It’s just one night; nothing bad will happen. Sure, there are rumors that the Governor is a butcher, but they’re just that—rumors. He can’t possibly be as bad as people claim. You know how rumors tend to get blown out of proportion, right?”
Did this man truly fail to grasp what was important here? Whether or not the Governor was a butcher was completely irrelevant.
Even if the Governor was some sort of monster who ate people whole, or ground them into paste, or drank their blood, what did that have to do with her? Let someone like that live as he pleased – it wasn’t her business.
What truly mattered was this: this man was trying to sell her off.
That was the issue—the only issue. Nothing else mattered. The Governor’s character or the rumors about him weren’t her concern; those were for others to worry about.
What really mattered, what was most outrageous, was this man’s despicable intention.
“Please, Yul-hye, I beg you…”
“Do-yoon.”
Yul-hye opened her mouth, speaking in a calm, carefully controlled tone despite the anger that was boiling inside her.
She was the daughter of a martial family that had upheld its legacy for four generations, with the fiery blood of warriors coursing through her veins.
Yet, alongside that fire, she possessed restraint and patience.
It was these qualities that allowed her to suppress the murderous intent that was welling up inside her at that very moment.
Without that restraint, she would have torn Jung Do-yoon’s mouth apart – and even ripping out his tongue wouldn’t have been nearly as satisfying.
Did this man, who so casually uttered such vile words that they stained her ears just by hearing them and soiled her lips just by repeating them, really consider himself human? Did he even understand the concept of shame?
“Go ahead, Yul-hye. Say what’s on your mind.”
“Do-yoon, can you really live the rest of your life without hesitation? Do you truly want to marry a woman who has been in another man’s arms?”
“What does it matter? Think about it more broadly. In the grand scheme of things, it’s nothing at all. I’m willing to overlook it generously, so who could possibly criticize you? If I’m fine with it, who would dare speak against you?”
“Do-yoon, I’m not worried about what others might think. I just want to understand how you truly feel. Do you honestly want to send me into another man’s arms? Are you genuinely okay with that?”
“I’m telling you, I have a generous heart.”
He insisted, as if that somehow made everything acceptable. Yul-hye clamped her mouth shut, realizing there was no point in continuing the conversation.
This man couldn’t grasp the main point. Other people’s opinions? That wasn’t the issue. She didn’t care about what others thought.
What enraged her the most was how he saw her—not as a person, let alone his wife, but as an object.
To him, she wasn’t human. She was a thing. A possession.
Something he thought could be dirtied, cleaned, and reused as he pleased. Something he believed could be passed around or loaned out whenever it suited him.
To someone like him, she wasn’t a partner—she was property. That’s why he had the audacity to tell her to throw herself into another man’s arms.
It was degrading. Repulsive. And with every passing moment, Yul-hye’s fury grew more intense.
“I swear I’ll treasure you for the rest of my life, okay? I’ll never forget your kindness.”
He begged, practically groveling, as if ready to kiss the ground she stepped on – or even her shoes.
Yul-hye looked at him with absolute contempt.
